Introduction

The title of the project is The Rotary Centennial Institute for Wetland Conservation. The WWF Hong Kong has sought help to renovate the Peter Scott Field Studies Centre, which provides the base for the community wetland education and public awareness programmes organised at the Reserve. The 5 Rotary Clubs in RI District 3450 Area 5 agreed that this could be a Rotary Centennial Project. The World Wide Fund For Nature Hong Kong (WWF Hong Kong) has agreed to name the above programme as the Rotary Centennial Institute for Wetland Conservation.

Project Logo

We have chosen the Black-faced Spoonbill as the symbol of our present project. The Black-faced Spoonbill is an endangered species of water bird that has a world population of around 1000. Each winter, some 20-30% of the world population spends the winter in the internationally renowned wetlands of Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay. The bird is well loved by children and local bird watchers. One of our Rotarians, VP Millie Chun produced a beautiful graphic design of the bird announcing the 100th birthday of Rotary International.
