My pleasure to report
that two of my three entries (in the Open Category)
in the "Service Above Self"
Photo Competition organized by the Rotary Club of Hong
Kong Northeast have received commendations and will
be featured in the "Service Above Self"
Photo Exhibition in March.
This photo competition aims at
- making young people aware of the community of which
they are a part, and in which they will grow up
- arousing recognition and appreciation of people
rendering, without fanfare, day by day, services to
those in need, and
- promoting the idea and concept of serving others.
I entered the competition at the last minute upon
President David's rally. It turned out to
be both fun and a learning experience for me to
dig through our archives to identify photos that
captured the spirit of Rotary service. I'm sure I'll
also be more aware of the Rotary service theme when I
take pictures in our future activities. Thanks to
David for encouragement and also to PP Anthony Chan
for support in preparing the photo entry forms and
documentation.
A commemorative book on the winning and commended
photos and information on Rotary will be published to
put the " SERVICE ABOVE SELF " images on
permanent record. These commemorative books will be
sent to schools to be kept in their libraries for
students' viewing. Please mark your
calendar for 6:30-8:00 pm Monday March 13, 2006 at
the Hong Kong Central Library for the
Photo Competition Award Ceremony and Photo
Exhibition Opening . More details to come. Click to see the photos
selected for commendations. They were all taken from our past
community service events.
