Background

This is a joint project by all District 3450 Area 5 Rotary Clubs, and will be earmarked as a Rotary Centennial Community Project. This project is targeted for completion in 2005, the centennial year of Rotary International.

This Rotary Centennial Project was initiated by the five Rotary Clubs of Area 5 in April 2003. The relationship of the clubs with Mai Po, however, dates back many years. For our club, we have made tours and visits to the WWF Mai Po Nature Reserve since 2001 and completed a Visitor Centre renovation project in 2002. As they say, one project leads to another and we are most happy to embark on this new Centennial Project in 2003 with resources contributed by all fellow Rotary Clubs of Area 5.

The Rotary Centennial will fall on 23 February 2005 and RI will have a grand celebration at its Centennial Convention in Chicago on 18-22 June 2005.

The programs for wetland education and public awareness will be established at Mai Po as the Rotary Centennial Institute for Wetland Conservation upon project completion.
