On 25 February 2006 the Rotary
Centennial Institute for Wetland Conservation (District 3450 Area 5) held its Anniversary
Seminar on the theme ‘State of Hong Kong Environment’.
Altogether three papers were
presented which covered topical subjects namely, ‘Relationship between Avian
Flu and Wild Birds’, ‘Marine Conservation in Hong Kong’ and ‘Terrestrial
Conservation in Hong Kong’. The
speakers, all reputable figures in the conservation circle, were respectively
Dr. Lew Young of WWF Hong Kong, Mr. Clarus Chu of WWF Hong Kong and Dr. Billy
Hau of the University of Hong Kong. The
Seminar was attended by an audience of over one hundred people which included
Rotarians, secondary school students a number of which were Interactors, school teachers as well as members of the general
public. The Seminar was well received
and there was heated Q&A time after each of the presentations.
Dr. Steve Cheung, PP of Rotary
Club of Hong Kong Northwest was kind enough to give an opening speech.
The event was co-organized
with the Department of Biology and Chemistry, City University of Hong Kong, and
took place at the Chan Kei Biu Lecture Theatre of the City University of Hong
Kong.
