Project Objectives
- Educate awareness on sexual violence issues
- Enhance awareness for Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women (ACSVAW) services and Rotary
- Raise funds to promote awareness for ACSVAW through a series of public relations activities
Project Description
Rotary Club of City Northwest Hong Kong and Rotary Club of Kingspark Hong Kong's aim in this project is to promote Rotary's image of Lead the Way in services through a joint community service project with our partner-in-service - ACSVAW, one of the few organizations in Hong Kong providing support services for female victims of sexual violence.
We want to raise awareness on sexual violence issues, to show Rotary's determination in the community to promote a safe and equal society to the public and the Family of Rotary. Furthermore, in line with Rotary's theme on literacy and education, by targeting students in particular, we hope to foster this very important aspect of life in the youth of Hong Kong early on in their lives.
The Rotary RainLily Project has received partial funding through Rotary's District Simplified Grant (DSG) 2006-2007 and matching funds from our two clubs for community service projects. (See DSG application July 2006.) However, we want to accomplish more on the promotion and publicity activities through additional resources and sponsorship.
The project has progressed smoothly since October 2006 with community education and sexual violence awareness programs at local primary and secondary schools, preparation for the fundraising concert, and appeal for generous support from corporations, fellow Rotary clubs, and individuals. (Read also DSG progress report March 2007.) In April and May 2007, the project has staged its highlight events and activities including a Family Day, a fundraising concert, and a closing ceremony.
The project has been concluded for 2006-2007. With proceeds raised from the project fundraising events, the Rotary RainLily Project plans to continue to fulfill its objectives by lauching more public relations activities to enhance awareness on sexual awareness issues and for ACSVAW services and Rotary in 2007-2008. We thank you for your continuous support.

What is RainLily | What is Rotary | Downloads | Contact UsThe Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women (ACSVAW) (關注婦女性暴力協會) is a non-government charity organization in Hong Kong with the following goals:
1. To provide emergency and crisis support to victims of sexual violence through RainLily (風雨蘭) the only crisis centre of its kind for female victims in Hong Kong - and RainLily Hotline that provides 24-hour support services to victims directly or through referrals.
2. To prevent sexual violence (including physical and verbal assault) through research, public awareness campaigns, education (especially young people) and training for the professionals.
RainLily's Origin
The RainLily is so named because it blooms heavily after rain and storm. Drought resistant and willing to flower at the slightest provocation, the RainLily in bloom exudes strength and hope, and reflects the tenacity and positive outlook of the female victims despite their setbacks. RainLily photos.
Plant taxonomy: The commonly known rainlily belongs to the Amarylidaceae family (石蒜科) and the Zephyranthes genus (蔥蓮屬). Two common species have been introduced into China: Z. carinata (pink) and Z. candida (white). Z carinata has also been synonymous with Z. grandiflora.
