The
feedback from most of the participants in the
District Assembly on 20th April was that they
had acquired a sense of duty to carry out the
District goals in the mood of caring and loving
human kind. Wearing the honeycomb shade of shirt
with embroidered year theme of "Sow the Seeds
of Love" probably helped them feel "the
power of ONE". This again proves Rotarians
love to be motivated to do what they believe in.
Invariably most commented it was something different
and rather refreshing. This credit should go to
the Assembly Organizing Chairman and his Committee:
CP Patrick Marie Herbet, and his co-Chairmen,
IPP Ada Cheng and Pres. Ebe Tung, and the most
untiring Committee members from Clubs of Wanchai,
Kowloon Golden Mile and Happy Valley. This unity
of collaboration is most encouraging and positive
for the coming Rotary year!
When
I got asked recently of how I felt about the time
getting close to the start of another Rotary year,
with no hesitation I would reply, " I am
fairly well prepared for it!" I can even
feel the enthusiasm from the various District
Officers and Chairmen how much they look forward
to carry out their plans and work with club officers
and Rotarians. In fact, at least one third of
them have already started their roles six months
ago, thanks to the Rotary International's principles
of Continuity.
Besides getting ready to attend the International
Convention at Barcelona, Spain, most of us are
probably quite looking forward to the "change-over"
within the Clubs and at the District level. A
rather large District Installation Organizing
Committee led by incoming Assistant Governor,
PP Peter Wong is busy preparing for the big day-
Thursday, 4th July, 2002. It is hoped that current
presidents and their in-coming presidents can
do their ceremonies there with their club officers.
The Twin District agreement between 3450 and 3830
will also be renewed on that occasion. It will
be truly memorable with Rotarians from clubs in
3830 invited by their sister clubs here to witness
a meaningful event that may effect projects and
exchanges between our District and Makati, Philippines,
in the years to come.
Rotarian,
do not miss out on such an event when leaders
within our District will meet up with leaders
from the general community at large (professional,
and government heads) and leaders from other service
organizations (JC, Lions, Zonta etc.); and do
not forget to include your dearest friends and
loved one to be there.
Most of all, let us first meet up at Barcelona!
From
your Governor-elect,
Gloria Chan
