IPP. Stephen opened today's session, mentioning that he was acting today owing to the absence of PE. Henry and VP. Rudy. He then started introducing our visiting Rotarians of the day, namely, Rt. Tony from Princeton Corridor (New Jersey) and IPP. Ozer from Hong Kong North East. Subsequently, IPP Stephen then asked PP. John to introduce his guest, Ms. Elsa Li. For the last time, Rt. John Yao was also asked to introduce his guest, Dr. Stephen Chow, since the latter was going to be inducted officially to be our club's member today. PP. John also reminded members about the golf tournament scheduled on March 14 at the Hong Kong Golf Club in FanLing. He further mentioned that there were 11 registered participants at the moment and that the first tee-off time was reserved at 8am on that day. Rt. Andy, who acted as the Sergeant-at-Arms, announced a handsome collection of HK$1,500.
Then, IPP. Stephen took the honor in conducting the solemn ceremony of inducting Dr. Stephen Chow as an official member of the Rotary Club of HK Island East. Rt. John Yao was asked to take the rostrum to introduce Rt. Stephen during the ceremony. Rt. John described Rt. Stephen as a highly available bachelor, owning a private medical practice in Causeway Bay. The latter was born in Hong Kong 37 years ago and graduated from the Pentecostal School and La Salle College. Rt. Stephen then continued his study at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1985 and subsequently graduated from its medical school in 1990. Rt. Stephen worked in various parts of Scotland and England until 1996, before coming back to Hong Kong to start his own medical practice. Rt. Stephen's main areas of interest in medicine were: dermatology and medical cosmetics, as well as general cases (anything that you did not want your better-half to know, according to Rt. John Yao, jokingly!) Currently, Rt. Stephen lived alone in the Hong Kong island, having personal interests in gym exercises, golf, reading, language-learning (French and Japanese,) music, dancing and theatres. He currently had three ambitions, namely, devoting some time in charity work; learning such sports as private jet-flying, car racing, and yachting; and lastly, finding a lovely, bubbly girl for life! During the ceremony, IPP. Stephen also announced Rt. Stephen's professional classification as Medical Practitioner - Dermatology. All members rose and welcomed Rt. Stephen as our new member.
After the member-induction ceremony, IPP. Stephen introduced our featured speaker of the day, who was none other than PP. John Kwok. PP. John's presentation was entitled "Everything you want to know about the Webpage of The Rotary Club HK Island East - with an on-line demonstration." PP. John first asked about how many members did have Internet access - many raised their hands. However, when he asked about how many members had actually visited our club's web site - only a handful raised their hands. PP. Andrew defended amusingly that he already knew everything about the club and did not need to visit the club's site.
PP. John proceeded to describe our club's web site. According to him, to access web site, one just needed to key in the URL address: http://www.rotary3450.org/hongkong-island-east, after invoking one's browser, such as the Internet Explorer. PP. John then continued to explain that there were five headings at the top of the web site, namely, "What's Up," "When," "How to go," "Events" and "Statistics." One can navigate through each of these headings by placing the mouse over it and clicking. The "What's Up" heading represented a section that showed the upcoming speakers' events for our club with the dates, speakers' names and topics described in details. For instance, one could discover that there would be a talk on "Fung Shui of Hong Kong in 2003" by Raymond Lo on March 26. The "When" section described the date and time of our regular, Wednesday's meeting. The "How to go" section described the direction to the club's regular meeting place. This section even contained a detailed map of the Causeway Bay to aid visitors to locate the meeting place. The "Events" section highlighted the past events that our club participated. These events included the District Conference, Joint District Installation, Visits to sister clubs, Club's Anniversary Events, International and Community Service Projects. The "Statistics" section was composed of statistics about our club's membership and professional classifications. Other than the abovementioned sections, the club's web site also contained the contact information of our club's current President, Secretary, Club's Advisor, Webmaster, and Web Advisor.
As a highlight, PP. John described the different portions of our club's on-line Tung Feng Bulletin. These parts included the "What Happened Last Week," "Rotary Information," "Joke," and "Pictures." He mentioned that the "Joke" might at times be omitted due to copyright issues. Then, PP. John went on to describe a special section dedicated to highlight our RI President Bhichai Rattakul's background, experience and various official designations as well as decorations. From this section, members would also be able to discover that RIPE Bhichai actually did his high school study in Hong Kong. As a conclusion, PP. John showed various hyperlinks to the past issues of Tung Feng, web site of Rotary International, web site of D3450 Rotary International Hong Kong.
IPP. Stephen thanked PP. John for his enlightening talk in the usual Rotarian manner. He then ended the session by proposing a toast to the Rotary Clubs of Hong Kong North East and Princeton Corridor (New Jersey.)

No Great Loss
President George Bush is visiting an elementary school today and he visits one of the classes.
They are in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asks the President if he would like
to lead the class in the discussion of the word, "tragedy."So the illustrious leader asks the class for an example of a "tragedy."
One little boy stands up and offers, "If my best friend, who lives next door, is playing in the street and a car comes along and
runs him over, that would be a tragedy.""No," says Bush, "that would be an ACCIDENT."
A little girl raises her hand: "If a school bus carrying 50 children drove off a cliff, killing everyone involved, that would be a tragedy."
"I'm afraid not," explains Mr. President. "That's what we would call a GREAT LOSS."
The room goes silent. No other children volunteer. President Bush searches the room.
"Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?"
Finally, way in the back of the room, a small boy raises his hand. In a quiet voice he says, "If Air Force One, carrying Mr. &
Mrs. Bush, were struck by a missile and blown up to smithereens, by a terrorist like Osama bin Laden, that would be a tragedy.""Fantastic," exclaims Bush, "that's right. And can you tell me WHY that would be a TRAGEDY?"
"Well," says the boy, "because it wouldn't be an accident, and it certainly wouldn't be a great loss."
