What Happened at our Meeting
on
24th March, 2004

Pres. Henry opened the meeting by welcoming back Rtn. Kenny from Canada. He said he knows exactly when he came back by noting the turnover at the Jockey Club. He also welcome back PP John from Beijing & Shanghai after staying there for seven days & claimed to have some interesting information & telephone numbers which he will share with club members if they will send him an email. He then asked PE Rudy to introduce visitors for today & also make his Sergeant-at-arms report.

PE Rudy welcomed Rtn. Benny Ratnani (HKNE) a regular visitor to our club. He also introduced our guest speaker My Edmund Leung who will be formally introduced by our program chairman later. He then announced our Sargeant-at-arms collection is $900.

Pres. Henry then asked Dir. Heron to make his report on the very successful Vocational Service project for young graduates at the CityPoli University. Our club provided the speakers for this seminar by giving valuable information to the students in their hunting prospects for jobs on graduation. The Key speakers during the seminar were PP Paul Kan (Peninsula), Mr. George So from Dupont China, Mr. Hugo Chan of Ogilvy & Mathers, Mr. Kenneth Kan of HYFCO Travel. For more information on this please see our next week's Tung Feng bulletin. In the meanwhile do look at the photographs in the last issue of the Tung Feng.No. 35.

Pres. Henry then touched on our forthcoming 50th Anniversary Celebration. Our guest from overseas will be arriving on the 15th of April. We will have a welcoming dinner for all of them on the 15th. They will have separate and varied programs on the following days. For instance some will be playing golf on the 16th, and some will be visiting temples, some will be shopping. All this will require close coordination and planning. He hopes that all members can help by taking part in helping our visitors enjoy their stay with us. We need all your help. Please look at the programs sheet included in today's Tung Feng Bulletin and PARTICIPATE!

Next Rtn Kishu came up to give us two quick bits of information. First, on the 14th Wednesday we will be hosting a birthday party for our club. We will have an official birthday cake cutting ceremony. And on this day our guest speaker will be Mr. David Lloyd, a highly respected golf teacher. So all you golf fanatics come to enjoy his talk. We have invited other golfer from our sister clubs to come to enjoy his talk. Second, our raffle prize collection is coming along nicely. We have received an air ticket to Perth, Australia for the first prize.

Rtn Tony then came up to introduce our speaker for today as Mr. Edmund Leung, OBE, JP who was our planned speaker a few weeks ago but was called away by other commitments suddenly so that he couldn't make it. Now luckily we have got him to talk to us today. The topic of his talk is air conditioning.

Mr. Leung started his talk by asking "Are you comfortable in your room?" He said room comfort takes into consideration many things such as lighting, carpet & furniture. But today we will speak only on air conditioning. He showed us a chart that points out the comfort zone of a room. In this comfort zone we control the temperature & the humidity to a comfortable level. So when we talk about air conditioning we are talking about the correct temperature and humidity. When we look at the controls on an air conditioning unit we see two controls, one is the temperature and the other is the fan speed. Basically these are the only two things you can control. When you reduce the temperature in the room you also reduce the humidity in that room because at reduce temperature you also reduce the humidity in that room. Most people think that when you set the thermostat at a lower setting the room will be cooler. This is a misconception number one. The second misconception is when you change the partitioning in your room you will upset the balanced airflow of the room. With this he ended his talk and invited questions from the floor.

PP Hubert ask about the virus that is air borne. How do you control this? Mr. Leung answered that virus cannot survive in dry conditions. If you have dry cool air the virus cannot survive.

PP John asked about the dirty ducts in the air conditioning. If we don't clean this we cannot have clean fresh air. But the companies who do this work ask for a huge amount of money for this service. Do you think it is justified? The answer is yes.

PP Stephen then came up to thank the speaker.

Pres. Henry asked who is next week's speaker; Rtn. Tony said it would be a speaker on Wine Tasting.

Pres. Henry then closed this meeting by making a toast to RI coupled with the Rotary Club of HKNE.

Joke & Cartoon

A woman walks into the drugstore and tells the pharmacist she wants to buy some arsenic.
He says, "What do you want with arsenic?"
She said " I want to kill my husband because he cheats on me by having sex with another woman."
The pharmacist says," I can't sell you arsenic so you can kill your husband lady, even if he is having sex with another woman."
So she reaches into her pocket and pulls out a picture of her husband having sex with the pharmacist's wife.
The pharmacist says "Oh, I didn't realize you had a prescription."
