What Happened at our Meeting
on
26th March, 2003

PP Henry was back in action and kindly acted as the acting President for the day as President Chris was on leave. A big welcome was extended to President Carl of HK North, together with his 14 fellow Rotarians. It was a good turn out as total number of attendants was 32, including 16 Island East members and 1 guest, Keith Pong. Next came VP Rudy expressing special welcome to Tony Luce of Princeton of U.S.A.

Birthday boys of the month were VP Rudy and PP David Li. Yes! Our keen golfer and great singer/musician PP David Li. PP John Luk was asked to lead the birthday tunes for these two great members of Island East. Then came the serious Sergeant-at-arms report by Rotarian Danny. The total collection was $1,800. He was so pleased that he actually forgot to mention the total number of attendants!

Uncle Peter then reminded us of the importance of the District Assembly There are now over 530 districts globally, which serve the key function of formulating key instructions and training venue for key officers. The names of club participants were due to be submitted by end of March.

PP John Kwok then announced the winners of the 1st John Kwok Golf Tournament. There are 2 groups of winners. For HK North, the Winner, and the two 1st Runner-ups were PP Lau Bo Yee, Rockie Kwok, and PP Lawrence Lam respectively. For Island East, the Winner, 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up were PP David Li, PP Tajwar and PP Andrew Chan. My God, David Li again!

Finally, we came to the highlights of the meeting. Rotarian Eddy introduced our speaker, Mr. Raymond Lo, also popularly known as "Fung Shui Lo". Raymond is a professional Feng Shui researcher and practitioner. He graduated from University of Hong Kong with a degree in Social Science. Raymond was a Fung Shui columnist of HK Standard between 1988 and 1991 and made several accurate forecasts of key world events including the 1991 Gulf War and Mrs. Thatcher's resignation. Raymond also wrote 7 Feng Shui books in both English and Chinese and appears frequently in international TV programs and magazines.

The following is a short recap of Raymond's talk - "Fung Shui of Hong Kong in 2003".
- What is Fung Shui (FS)? A study of how the environment affects your well being.
- Concept of 9 Flying Stars - These stars represent 9 different kinds of energy. In order of sequence, they are:

- (1) Academic; (2) Sickness; (3) Conflict/Robbery; (4) Romance; (5) Misfortune; (6) Legal; (7) Current Prosperity; (8) Future Prosperity; (9) Clash. These numbers are inserted differently in a tic-tac-toe diagram to illustrate the changing and different
FS for each year.

- 3-Period and 9-Ages - Each age consists of 20 years. There were 3 key periods of 60 years in total. We are now going through Age No. 7 (during years 1984 to 2003). Age No. 8 will therefore include years 2004 to 2024. The key point is that FS will change and vary for each age.
Interesting observations for Age No. 7 made by Raymond were:- (1) Young successful women became more prevalent; (2) Big advance in technology e.g. internet; (3) Fortunate direction is the West. This means that there is prosperity for countries with many mountains in their Western part.

- FS 2003 - Energy 5 appears on the South East, hense it causes misfortune to the South East of China, Hong Kong, and South East Asia. As Tung Chee Wah's building is facing this direction, Raymond predicted that there would be great Misfortune for South East of HK/Kowloon. For example the serious pneumonia outbreak occured to the Metropole Hotel which faces Southeast and the most seriously affected units 7 and 8 in block E of Amoy Garden is situated in the southeast. He also recommended members to hang a metal windchime in the southeast location of their home. Raymond also mentioned that Saddam Hussein's luck would be running out this year as he was born in the Year of Ox, which has Energy No. 9 this year (i.e.Clash). Although he managed to escape from the 1st Gulf War in 1991, 12 years afterwards (i.e. 1 lunar calendar cycle), he might not be so lucky this time and should be buried by earth. My God!

There are some errors in this write up and the corrections are in italics. ( Ed)

- Due to the limited time slot, Raymond made some short comments on incidents like Columbia Shuttle accident and Metropole Hotel virus saga. As for the upcoming Age No. 8, he predicted that this would an age for bright young men in the IT industry. Time will tell as to how accurate his predictions are..........

Rotary Information

District Assembly

In view of the yearly changeover of club leadership in Rotary, RI requires each district to hold a District Assembly to provide all club leaders with appropriate instruction for the task they will assume. The annual district assembly is the major leadership training event in each of the 530 Rotary districts worldwide.

The District Assembly offers motivation, inspiration, information and new ideas for club officers, directors and chief committee chairmen of each club. The assembly generates ways and means to the participants to make their clubs more effective and interesting.

Another important feature of a district assembly is the voting for a district fund for the ensuing Rotary year. Only the incoming presidents are entitled to vote on behalf of their clubs. 2/3 (two third) of the presidents-elect present constitutes a quorum.

Before attending the district assembly, the presidents-elect should consult their board for advice how to vote should there be any queries.

The 43rd district assembly will be held on 12th April 2003 at the Kowloon Shangrila Hotel for a full day session. Presidents-elect and other club leaders should attend. The district allows 8 (eight) participants per club free of charge, including lunch and coffee breaks. Presidents-elect should register the names and titles of the eight participants before 31st March 2003.

Special Notice

Due to the Atypical Pneumonia outbreak in Hong Kong, the 43rd District Assembly scheduled on the 12th April 2003 at the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel, Kowloon, is now being postponed to another date to be announced later.

That date is now to be on 18th May (Sunday). Time and venue will be the same.

Jokes

Two men met at a bus stop and struck up a conversation. One of them kept complaining of family problems.
Finally, the other man said: "You think you have family problems?
Listen to my situation."

A few years ago I met a young widow with a grown-up daughter. We got married and got myself a stepdaughter. Later, my father married my stepdaughter. That made my stepdaughter, my stepmother. And my father became my stepson. Also, my wife became mother-in-law of her father-in-law.

Much later the daughter of my wife, my stepmother, had a son. This boy was my half-brother because he was my father's son.
But he was also the son of my wife's daughter which made him my wife's grand-son. That made me the grand-father of my half-brother.

This was nothing until my wife and I had a son. Now the half-sister of my son, my stepmother, is also the Grandmother.
This makes my father, the brother-in-law of my child, whose stepsister is my father's wife, I am my stepmother's brother-in-law,
my wife is her own child's aunt, my son is my father's nephew, and I am MY OWN GRANDFATHER!
