Last week's Proceedings -
11th April, 2007
President Paul was in the chair and the meeting was started promptly. 13 members were in attendance, with no visiting Rotarians nor guests.
Director Jason was the birthday boy and PP George led the song. PP John was seen taking time to arrange the golf trophies, with the help of an amiable lady. Meanwhile, new technology was introduced into the club by Rtn Peter, in the way of digital camera coupled with thermal colour printing. The photos could be produced straight away, and were in better quality and more permanent than the Polaroid ones, making it ideal for the speaker's momento.
Announcements from the President included the following:
Acting SAA PDG Uncle Peter reported the red box collection at $1700, with a new Nokia mobile phone donated by PP Hubert for award by drawing lots later in the meeting.

The highlight of the meeting was a talk by Mr Romax Chu, who heads the technology department of mobile phone giant Nokia in Hong Kong , on the topic of " What next after 3 G?" After an introduction by PP Hubert, our speaker told us that previously different areas of communication, eg speech, voice, music, e mail, video, photography, computer, DVD, MP3 etc. were discreet and separate. However, with the internet, broadband, cellular technology, wi fi etc the boundaries became less and less defined. With the increasingly faster and bigger bytes transference; the trend now is towards convergence. One small mobile phone does it all. 3.5G and later on 3.9G will transmit data faster than what the fixed lines can do now. In the radio area, FM radio quality and even mobile TV can be done. Dual speakers on the phone, DVD quality recording, 5 mega pixel with Carl Zeiss lens will be comparable to digital cameras. It will also act as the Octopus card for touch payment and purchase. Display screen of 2.5 inch rivals the cameras. In the area of applications, multitasking will be in, with calls incoming whilst the owner watches TV on the devise. Internet browser will be there, and a picture can be taken and sent off to a web site directly. Voice dictionaries can be put on the phone.
The talk generated a lot of interests amongst the members and questions flowed. Yes, the phone and its data can be backed up and protected by locking programs and remote controlled. The Nokia company identified 4 categories of phone users, and puts out 40 models per year to meet the needs, with personalized phones on the pipeline.
The speaker was thanked by Director Norman. From all the contributors of the red box today, our hard working Secretary Andy Wong was the winner of drawing of lots to win the Nokia 6300 mobile phone, a state of the art machine indeed. The meeting was closed after a toast to the RI International and HKIE.
2007 District Assembly
The district assembly offers motivation, inspiration, Rotary information and new ideas for club officers, directors and key committee chairmen of each club. Some of the most experienced district leaders conduct informative discussions on all phases of Rotary administration and service projects. The assembly gives all participants valuable new ideas to make their club more effective and interesting. Usually eight from each club are invited to attend the training session.
Another important feature of a district assembly is a review by the incoming district governor of the program theme and emphasis of the new RI president for the coming year. District goals and objects are also described and plans are developed for their implementation. More importantly is the voting by the in-coming presidents and decided the district fund for the ensuing year.
The success of each Rotary club is frequently determined by the club's full representation and participation in the annual district assembly. Please re reminded that the coming 47th District Assembly will be held on 28th April 2007 at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Shatin Club House, 4th floor, Kowloon from 9.00 a.m. Transportation by coach will be provided from the following pick-up points,
Please inform our Hon. Secretary Andy Wong should you wish to attend the above district assembly. Those who have already signed up for the assembly are not necessary to advise the Hon. Secretary again, except for the transportation.

Make-up Questions
Hillary and the Cow
Hillary Clinton and her driver were cruising along a country road one
evening when an ancient cow loomed in front of the car. The Driver tried to avoid it but couldn't - the aged bovine was struck and killed.
Hillary told her driver to go up to the farmhouse and explain to the owners
what had happened. She stayed in the car making phone calls to lobbyists.
About an hour later the driver staggered back to the car with his clothes in disarray. He was holding a half-empty bottle of expensive wine in one hand, a rare, huge Cuban cigar in the other, and was smiling happily, smeared with lipstick.
"What happened to you," asked Hillary?
"Well," the driver replied, "the farmer gave me the cigar, his wife gave me
the wine, and their beautiful twin daughters made passionate love to me!"
"My God, what did you tell them?" asked Hillary.
The driver replied, "I just stepped inside the door and said, I'm Hillary
Clinton's driver and I've just killed the old cow. The rest happened so fast I couldn't stop it!"
