3rd May, 2006

President Eddy started the meeting on time at 1:20 pm.

We had a big turn up of visiting Rotarians as follows:

PP Rory Nicholas from Rotary Club of Hong Kong
PP Sandra Logan from Rotary Club of Hong Kong
PP Peter Tse from Rotary Club of Tsim Sha Tsui
PP Ram Tolani from Rotary Club of Wanchai

There were also three guests as follows:

Mr. Steven Hak - guest of PE Paul Chan
Ms. Cathy Huang and Ms. Ma Jing Jing - guest and mentee of PP Stephen Liu

President Mochizuki gave a brief introduction of his Club and exchanged banner with President Eddy.

President Eddy went on to give announcement asking for nomination for Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship and the deadline for the suitable candidate nomination is 1st June 2006.

There was no birthday boy for this week.

The acting Sergeant-at -arm PDG Uncle Peter reported a total collection of $1,000 for the Red-box donation including handsome contribution from President Mochizuki.

The highlight of the meeting was the talk by Mr. Ian Robertson.

Mr. Robertson has been living in Hong Kong for over 30 years. He has worked as a civil engineer, a manager, and a management consultant before.

About 3 years ago, he set up a company called "Out of the Box Thinking Limited" which teaches students how to think and coaches organization to conduct high performance team meetings for greater focus and direction, effective problem solving and saving precious time.

The talk was about "Perception or Deception - A mostly light hearted look at human behavior at home and in the office".

Mr. Robertson told us how human's mind reacts and thinks. People have perception and should learn how not to be deceived by other people.

We should learn how to:
- gather relevant information,
- look for value and benefit,
- undertake risk assessment, - generate new ideas,
- use intuition and hunches appropriately, and
- organize information for analysis and conclusion.

The idea of "Six Thinking Hats" was developed by Edward de Bono and these concepts have been widely used by global corporations such as 3M, Dupont, ABB, etc.

If we can do that, we can achieve a more efficient and effective team work and can cut time in meeting of up to 80% of the originally planned schedule.

PE Paul thanked the speaker formally for such an informative and enlightening talk to our Club in the usually Rotary manner.

Finally, President Eddy declared the close of the meeting and made a toast to RI coupled with the Rotary Clubs of Shizuoka East, Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui and Wanchai.

Joke

Bill Gates decided to hold a contest for his lawyers. Whoever wins get to handle all of Microsoft's business. The day of the event, Gates' estate is swamped with lawyers, all eager for the nod from the richest man in the world.

"Gentlemen," Gates starts, "please follow me." He leads them to an enormous swimming pool filled with piranha. Then he snaps his fingers. With that, a servant opens the door. A cow rushes out and stumbles into the pool. In no time at all, the cow is nothing but bones. Gates says, " Any man who can swim the length of that pool shall represent me in all my business and personal dealings." Instantly, a lawyer named Carl pitches into the Water. Furiously he swims across the pool, hauls himself out and stands there panting. "Bravo!" shouts Gates. "You have proven to me how much you want my business."

" Actually, I just want one thing," Carl gasps. "What's that?"

" The name of the bastard who pushed me in."
