What Happened at our Meeting
on
28th May, 2003PE. Henry acted as the President and started today's session by thanking members who turned up diligently. He mentioned that members should be proud of themselves, being one of the few clubs that had managed not to cancel any regular session during the critical SARS period. PE. Henry also extended a warm welcome to our only visitor of the day, AG. Bob Wilson of HK South. He then further announced that the District Installation dinner would be held on July 4 (which also happened to be Uncle Sam's birthday) at the Hong Kong Convention Center. The charges for this event would be free for members. Thus, he urged members to join the big party in that evening!
Next, PE. Henry mentioned that he would like to invite IPP. Stephen to relate his story about his shoulder injury. IPP. Stephen then took the rostrum describing that his shoulder injury was incurred in a golf game with PP. David and PP. Hubert. His shoulder practically stumbled onto the ground after he had one of his feet caught stuck in the field. Initially, IPP. Stephen did not feel much pain on his shoulder, but, as the pain became worse, he had to stop playing after finishing nine holes. He then went to see Rtn. Dr. Tony for help, and was surprised to find out that his collar bone was fractured into four parts. IPP. Stephen had to go to the hospital to have the broken parts fixed. He sincerely thanked Rtn. Dr. Tony for fixing his shoulder injury in a manner that the former did not require any pain-killer during the healing process. Unfortunately, he had to declare "retirement" from golf for a 6-month period, according to the doctor's order. PE. Henry thanked IPP. Stephen for presenting his side of the stories, since there had been different versions being rumored by different members. Then, VP. Rudy, who acted as the Sergeant-at-Arms, reported a handsome collection of HK$1000.
Subsequently, PE. Henry kicked off the beginning of the Club Assembly and invited VP. Rudy to chair the session. VP. Rudy began with reminding members about the Joint Board Meeting which was scheduled to take place on June 12 at 6:30pm at the Rotary Information Center. In particular, VP. Rudy encouraged members to come up with project ideas and let the appropriate incoming service directors, namely, PP. Hubert and Dir. Jason for Community Service, Dir. Heron and Dir. Paul for Vocational Service, Dir. Laurence for International Service and PP. John Kwok for Club Service. Then, VP. Rudy invited Sec. Eddy to brief members about an auctioning charity event that would be taking place on June 10. Sec. Eddy elaborated that the Chi Heng Foundation whose representative presented a talk last week was organizing an auctioning event for sponsoring the establishment of schools for the orphans of AIDS-infected peasants in Central China. Sec. Eddy encouraged members to participate in terms of personal contribution to that event. For any enquiry, please contact Mr. Chung To (email: chungto@netvigator.com).
PP. John Kwok then took the rostrum and reminded members about the importance of everyone to meet the 60% minimum attendance records. He showed members the details of the printout that he posted at every meeting, highlighting the attendance of every member, the average attendance per month and per half-year for each team, and the whole club's monthly cumulative attendance (including makeup). He highlighted that the club was still a little below the minimum requirement for its cumulative attendance - 54.39%.
VP. Rudy continued the Assembly by announcing that he would be heading an Organizing Committee for the Club's 50th Anniversary Celebration. PDG. Uncle Peter added that the committee would be seeking any ideas for the theme of this important event - some members came up with such impromptu idea as "No Change in 50 years". In addition, VP. Rudy encouraged members to contact PE. Henry and PP. Hubert for the theme project (which would also happen to be our Centennial Project.) VP. Rudy then invited AG. Bob Wilson to speak at our Club Assembly. AG. Bob suggested that while it was every member's responsibility to introduce new members to the club, it would be more efficient to form a dedicated task force for recruiting new members. In addition, AG. Bob mentioned that it would be beneficial to involve members who just joined the club to introduce other new members. VP. Rudy thanked AG. Bob for his fruitful ideas. VP. Rudy then reminded members about the District Assembly on June 15 and encouraged new members to join the event at the Kowloon Shangri-la Hotel. He also announced the "Operation UNITED" project proposed by DGE. Jones Wong about seeking voluntary contribution for a campaign to fight SARS from Rotarians of District 3450. The club had put this item in the next Board meeting's agenda for discussion and actions.
During the Club Assembly, PP. John Luk also made suggestions about the possibility of moving the club's regular meeting to the World Trade Center for a lower fee, which PE. Henry would follow up with Rtn. Kishu. In response to PP. Andrew's question on the club's financial situation, Tres. Clark reported that the balance sheet was still in "black" - reflecting a healthy condition, even though the club had to make some subsidies to the hotel payment, owing to the low turn-out for a few regular sessions. Finally, PE. Henry thanked members for their enthusiastic participation at the Club Assembly and then ended the session by proposing a toast to the Rotary Club of HK South.
District Assembly The purpose of the district assembly is to develop Rotary club leaders who have the necessary skills, knowledge and motivation to sustain and/or grow their membership base, implement successful projects that address the needs of their communities and communities in other countries, support The Rotary Foundation through both programme participation and financial contributions.

Chicago. The son turned from the window to his mother and asked, "If big dogs have baby dogs and big cats have baby cats, why don't big planes have baby planes?"
The mother said, "Well, maybe that's something you could ask the stewardess." So the boy asked the stewardess, "If big dogs have baby dogs and big cats have baby cats, why don't big planes have baby planes?"
The stewardess responded, "Did your mother tell you to ask me?" The boy admitted that this was the case. "Well, then, tell your mother
that there are no baby planes because Southwest always pulls out on time. You can ask your mother to explain it to you."
A Licensed Counselor was conducting a group therapy session with four young mothers and their small children...
"You all have obsessions," he observed. To the first mother, he said, "You are obsessed with eating. You've even named your
daughter Candy."He turned to the second Mom. "Your obsession is with money. Again, it manifests itself in your child's name, Penny."
He turns to the third Mom. "Your obsession is alcohol. This too manifests itself in your child's name, Brandy."
At this point, the fourth mother gets up, takes her little boy by the hand and whispers, "Come on, Dick, we're leaving."
