There will be three different competitions for the equestrian events namely:
Equestrian events are the only sport event in the Olympic Games involving both animal and human.
Hong Kong has the privilege of holding this Olympic event (which was originally for Beijing only as the Olympic City) is due to our good record of horse racing and the quarantine and facilities of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
For this special event, the government has formed the company to organize all the things necessary to make it a success including:
Other functions of the company include the promotion of the equestrian sport, organizing the logistic of the competition, security, immigration, custom, medical services, environmental protection, IP right protection, quarantine, doping control, veterinary services, media and broadcast facilities, transportation of horses, Olympic village for the athletics, hotel accommodation for visitors, etc. etc.
There will be about 200 athletics and over 200 horses joining the event. There will be 6 set of medals and will last for 12 days.
After the formal Olympic Game, there will be the Paralympic Games right following on.
The events will require a large number of volunteers (1,800 for the Olympic Games and 600 for Paralympic Games) and so far there are over 12,000 applicants already.
There will be 200,000 tickets for sale for the events and let see how many of you can get a ticket!

We were proud to learn that two new Rotary clubs were added this Rotary year, namely, R/C of Taipa in Macau and R/C of Selbee in Mongolia.

Till we meet again at the next District Conference, most probably in Macau.
At 6.30 p.m. the District Governor Banquet was ready and kicked off to serve dinner later. It was a grand gathering as the 26th May 2007 was the exact birthday of D.G. Tony Wong. We all sang the Birthday song to mark the occasion. There were entertainments, singing and lucky draw. R/C of HK island East members were lucky enough to win three prizes by PDG Peter Hall, President Paul Chan and Norman Lee. Each of them have to request for plastic bags from the hotel to carry the goodies. Proud to mention, the R/C of HK Island East was the winner of four RI or District Awards. President Paul was busy jumping up and down the stage to receive them.
During the dinner, RI President Personal Representative Hoe Bing read out a congratulatory note from The Rotary Foundation to congratulate the Rotary Club of Kowloon East for being the World First Rotary Club to achieve this title which echoed with a long and thunderous applause.
All good things must come to an end. There is no exception for the 47th District Conference. Whether it is successful or not will leave for the judgment of the members.

Levity: The Golfing Nun
A nun walks into Mother Superior's office and plunks down into a chair. She lets out a sigh, heavy with frustration.
"What troubles you, Sister?" asks the Mother Superior. "I thought this was the day you spent with your family."
"It was," sighed the Sister. "And I went to play golf with my brother. We try to play golf as often as we can - You know I was quite a talented golfer before I devoted my life to Christ."
"I seem to recall that," the Mother Superior agreed. "So I take it your day of recreation was not relaxing?"
"Far from it," snorted the Sister. "In fact, I even took the Lord's name in vain today!
"Goodness, Sister!" gasped the Mother Superior, astonished. "You must tell me all about it!"
"Well, we were on the fifth tee...and this hole is a monster, Mother - I'm talking about a 560 yard Par 5, with a nasty dogleg left and a hidden green with a creek in the front and right side....and I hit the drive of my life. I creamed it. The sweetest swing I ever made. And it's flying straight and true, right along the line I wanted, and then it hits a bird in mid-flight not 100 yards off the tee!"
"Oh my goodness!" commiserated the Mother Superior, "How unfortunate! But surely that didn't make you blaspheme, Sister!"
"No, that wasn't it," admitted the Sister. "While I was still trying to fathom what had happened, this squirrel runs out of the woods, grabs my ball and runs off down the fairway!"
"Oh, that would have made me blaspheme!" sympathized Mother Superior.
"But I didn't," sobbed the Sister. "And I was so proud of myself! And while I was pondering whether this was a sign from God, this hawk swoops out of the sky and grabs the squirrel and flies off, with my ball still clutched in his little paws!"
"So that's when you cursed," said the Mother with a knowing smile.
"Nope, that wasn't it either," cried the Sister, anguished, "because as the hawk started to fly out of sight, the squirrel started struggling, and the hawk dropped him, right there on the green, and the ball popped out of his paws and rolled to about 18 inches from the cup!"
The Mother Superior sat back in her chair, folded her arms across her chest, fixed the Sister with a baleful stare and said...
You missed the fucking putt, didn't you!"
