As for the highlight of the meeting, Rotarian Paul introduced Ms. Christine Fang, who is the Chief Executive of HK Council of Social
Services ("HKCSS"). HKCSS was founded in 1947 and has now evolved into an umbrella of non-governmental social services entities that offer voluntary welfare services and activities to communities in Hong Kong.

Christine's speech focuses primarily on 3 key areas:-
What has HK gone through in embattling against SARS? What kind of actions can general public adopt to save our community without relying on Government's initiatives? The poverty situation in Hong Kong. The following is a key summary of her speech:-

"Community Rebuilding After SARS"

The SARS crisis is a painful experience and lesson to the Hong Kong community. It has exposed our vulnerabilities and forced us to rethink our priorities and agenda for the future. Public attention has focused on economic recovery and improvements to our medical and public health system. What are our priorities in terms of protecting the vulnerables, enhancing community care and community cohesion? Can the strength of the civil society and cross-sectoral partnerships that have emerged in the SARS outbreak be continued? As a learning community, we need to reflect and learn from the pain and fear that have haunted us in the past months,
in order to emerge stronger and wiser to face the future.

The Hong Kong Council of Social Service was founded in 1947, registered as society in 1949 and became a body corporate in 1951. The Council is an umbrella organization of over 290 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are providing 90% of the social welfare service of those who need them through their nearly 3,000 service units all over Hong Kong. The Council works in concert with voluntary welfare organizations, service clubs, community groups and individuals over the development and promotion
of voluntary welfare activities and in meeting the overall social service needs of Hong Kong. Being the co-ordinator of the voluntary sector, enhanced by representation in numerous external policy-making and advisory committees, the Council has since become an influential force in forging a caring community for the needy.

The mission is to establish a welfare sector that is highly accountable, efficient, effective and responsive to social needs, and upholds the long-term development of our society and the well being of our citizens.

Hon Sec Eddy Wong was called upon to give a vote of thanks to our speaker. Then Acting Pres. Rudy closed the meeting by proposing toasts to the Rotary Clubs of HK NorthEast, HK Harbour & Princeton Corridor.

Joke & Cartoon

An Indian and a priest are walking through the woods. The priest is teaching the Indian the English language, so he can be integrated into the “white man's society?
As they walk along, the priest sees a tree and says to the Indian, Tree.
They continue walking along and come upon a bush, and the priest says to the Indian, Bush. They keep walking and eventually come out into a small clearing, where they come upon a man and a woman having sex. The priest is so upset that he's not sure what he should tell the Indian. The only thing he can think of to say is, Man riding a bicycle.?
The Indian then pulls out his bow and arrow, aims and instantly kills the man.
The priest turns to the Indian and says, what'd you do that for??
The Indian replies, MY bicycle!!?
