Last week's Proceedings -
22nd August, 2007
President Laurence chaired this luncheon meeting and he started by introducing two guests: Mr. Willie Wong (guest of Hon Sec Norman Lee) and Laurence's lovely wife Jenny. This was to be followed by a tribute of an album of last year's Club Bulletins to PP Paul Chan in memory of last year's excellent effort and achievements.
President Laurence then updated on the Hebei project which was affected by the change in government regulations – donors' were invited to express their points of view. He also reported on the recent visit to the elderly home in Tung Chung, a joint effort with the Rotoract Club of Hong Kong Island East. The Elderly people in Tung Chung needed care more than financial aid. This will become a special project to the Rotoractors with a view to train up their people caring and project leadership skills.
SAA Heman reported a red box collection of HK$1,000.
As invited by Hon Sec Norman, the speaker of the day, Mr. Horace Cheung of Yui Kee Company Limited, has made a most interesting presentation on German wines. Contributed by Horace were bottles of white and red wines for tasting – Riesling and Scheurebe (white) and Spatburgender Troken (red), all from the region Pfalz.
Apart from interesting background information, types of grapes and facts and data on Germany's wine industry, Horace also shared with us useful tips such as wine classification and how to read German wine label. The presentation lasted approximately 30 minutes with excellent photographs taken by Horace himself. After a round of questions, Rtn Charles thanked Horace for sharing with us such an interesting topic yet often not covered elsewhere.HKIE Regular Luncheon Meetings Venues
Reluctantly, we have to move our Wednesday lunch meeting to a better and cheaper venue, hence it prompted me to jot down a short history of all the meeting places we have been in the past years from day one. This note is just from my memory and the dates mentioned might not be so exact.
Since inauguration in April 1954, we started our regular luncheon meeting at the Winner House, North Point, Hong Kong on every Wednesday for seven years.
In 1961, we moved to Sunning House, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong to continue our weekly meetings. Our own member, Franklin was the general manager of Sunning House at that time.
When Peter Hall was elected President of our club in the year 1964/65, we were housed at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Kellett Island, Causeway Bay, for one year. Later, we were located at Peter Hall's restaurant, known as Pak Lee Restaurant and Night Club in King's Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, with Chinese Cuisine. All foreign members enjoyed the Chinese food.
When the Coffee House in Lee Garden Hotel was ready, we changed to meet at the new place from 1968 until the demolition of Lee Garden Hotel in 1994.
Finally, we moved to the Excelsior Hotel, Causeway Bay, in 1995 and have our Wednesday regular meeting until the end of July 2007. Due to the increase of luncheon cost, we were forced to move out to a new venue.
After several explorations for new venues by the committee, the board had the consent of the club members to make a move to the nearby Regal Hong Kong Hotel.
As from 1st August 2007, we are having our regular luncheon on every Wednesday at the Regal Hong Kong Hotel, 88 Yee Woo Street in Causeway Bay. Hong Kong, quite near the Excelsior Hotel.
For record sake, we did stay at the Caravelle Hotel, Causeway
Bay, for a short period.
Please do come and enjoy our Rotary fellowship at the Regal Hong Kong Hotel, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. The present luncheon cost is at a flat rate HK$220.00 per person.
Presented by PDG Peter Hall

Make-up Questions
Baptizing a Drunk
A man is stumbling through the woods, totally drunk, when he comes upon a preacher baptizing people in the river. He proceeds to walk into the water and subsequently bumps into the preacher. The preacher turns around and is almost overcome by the smell of alcohol, whereupon he asks the drunk, "Are you ready to find Jesus?"
The drunk answers, "Yes, I am." So the preacher grabs him and dunks him in the water.
He pulls him up and asks the drunk, "Brother, have you found Jesus?"
The drunk replies, "No, I haven't found Jesus."
The preacher, shocked at the answer, dunks him into the water again for a little longer.
He again pulls him out of the water and asks again, "Have you found Jesus, my brother?"
The drunk again answers, "No, I haven't found Jesus."
By this time the preacher is at his wits end and dunks the drunk in the water again -- - but this time holds him down for about 30 seconds and when he begins kicking his arms and legs he pulls him up.
The preacher again asks the drunk, "For the love of God, have you found Jesus?"
The drunk wipes his eyes and catches his breath and says to the preacher,

"Are you sure this is where he fell in?"
Give me a sense of humor, Lord,
Give me the grace to see a joke,
To get some humor out of life,
And pass it on to other folk!
