Last week's Proceedings -
20th September, 2006
President Paul called the meeting at 1:20 pm. There was no visiting Rotarian and guest in this luncheon, but only our Guest Speaker PDG Anthony Hung from RC of Taipo.
There were also no Birthday Boys attending in this week, and President Paul reported that:
- RI Secretary General announced that the 2006-2007 Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International in 2008-09 had indicated that it unanimously nominated:
Dong Kum K. Lee of the Rotary Club Seoul Hangang, Seoul, Korea for the office of President of Rotary International for the year 2008-09.
- The Board of RC of HKIE has nominated Rtn. Jason Chiu, Rtn. Andy Wong and Rtn. Norman Lee to participate Rotary Leadership Institute. The training would be in 3 parts in order to build up more leaders for local clubs 3 years later. The first session will be held on 11th November 2006.
- To remind Rotarians of RC of HKIE that we will have a Joint Luncheon Meeting together with RC of Shatin, RC of City Northwest HK and RC of Metropolitan HK on 27th September 2006. The Guest Speaker would be The Hon. Mr. Alan K.K Leong, S.C. His topic will be “What to expect of the Policy Address”.
- Rotary Club of Kwun Tong will hold their 33rd Annual Dinner on 13th October 2006 from 7pm to 10pm. The primary purpose of this function would be fund raising for their community service projects in 2006/07.
Then Acting Sergeant-at-arms PP Rudy reported that we have collected HK$1,000 for the Red Box Contribution.
President Paul then introduced our Guest Speaker PDG Anthony Hung to share the recently proposed new Club management format “Club Leadership Plan” to all rotarians.
PDG Anthony asked whether our Club has any long term plan for the Club and President Plan gave a positive answer and he strongly reminded our President Elect Laurence to seriously consider this CLP.
“The Club Leadership Plan poses key questions for club leaders to consider when planning their club's future. Many clubs are already doing these things, but these questions can serve as an annual reminder as we review our club's operations. For clubs that are struggling or just need a change, they can serve as a blueprint for successful club operations.Club Leadership Plan: Has your club considered…
- How to address the elements of an effective club (membership, service, The Rotary Foundation, leadership)?
- How to ensure clear communication between the club president, board, committee chairs, club members, district governor, assistant governors, and district committees?
- How to provide for continuity in leadership and service?
- How to amend the club bylaws to reflect the current reality of the club?
- How to use fellowship as a motivating factor?
- How to provide Rotary educational opportunities for all members?
“The Club Leadership Plan (CLP) is a collection of best practices used by Rotary clubs around the world for the efficient administration of their clubs. With efficient administration, clubs can more effectively pursue the Object of Rotary and carry out activities along each of the Four Avenues of Service.
After PDG Anthony’s presentation, President Paul invited PP Henry Chan to give our votes of thanks to our Guest Speaker. President Paul closed the meeting at 2:05 pm by proposing a toast to RI coupled with the RC of Tai Po.
The plan focuses on member involvement, continuity for leadership of the club and service projects, and communication. Implementation of the plan is an opportunity to assess your club and develop a long-range plan that addresses the elements of an effective club: membership, service projects, The Rotary Foundation, and leadership development.
The CLP is not mandatory and can be customized to fit the needs of each Rotary club around the world. For instance, clubs should add subcommittees or committees to the recommended committee structure that address the unique needs and goals of the club.”
PDG Anthony also circulated a copy of the Frequently Asked Questions on Club Leadership Plan for all the attendees of this luncheon. He recommended HKIE to seriously consider the adoption of CLP in our administration because sooner or later the support from District and RI will only be based on this administration structure. If possible and the board of HKIE agrees, the Club should organized an EGM to adopt the use of this Club management structure within 2006 and amend our by-laws accordingly. According to PDG Anthony’s opinion, it is possible for HKIE to take implementation step starting from Jan 2007.

JokesGoodbye Mom
A guy shopping in a supermarket noticed a little old lady following him around. If he stopped, she stopped. Furthermore she kept staring at him. She finally overtook him at the checkout, and she turned to him and said, "I hope I haven't made you feel ill at ease; it's just that you look so much like my late son."
He answered, "That's okay."
"I know it's silly, but if you'd call out "Good bye, Mom" as I leave the store, it would make me feel so happy."
She then went through the checkout ... and as she was on her way out of the store, the man called out, "Goodbye, Mother." The little old lady waved and smiled back at him.
Pleased that he had brought a little sunshine into someone's day, he went to pay for his groceries.
"That comes to $121.85," said the clerk.
"How come so much? I only bought 5 items.."
The clerk replied, "Yeah, but your Mother said you'd pay for her things, too."
