Next Week Speaker- Mr. Raymond Tong on the topic of "Drafting a Will".

High light of the day - Director Eddy Wong officially introduced our speaker, Ms Joyce Chan, Senior Vice President, Business Development of UPS Capital (HK) Limited.

Ms Joyce said that UPS was founded some 97 years ago with a staff of around 320,000 strong worldwide, mainly dealing on courier business. In recent years, it had extended to many fields, such as business expansion, financial institution offering exporters.

(a) 100% bad debt protection;
(b) receivable collection and
(c) trade finance without tangible security.

With the help of her power point apparatus, a well defined informative talk was painted through the screen. Her interesting talk aroused many questions from the floor, viz, PP Desmond Cheung, Director Paul Chan and also our former member, PP Leslie Soltay. Joyce tried her best technique to answer all questions. Due to time restraint, President Rudy had to ask members to stay behind to exchange view with our speaker on further questions. He then adjourned the meeting with a toast to RI coupled with the name of the Rotary Club of Wanchai after PP Hubert Chan delivered his vote of thanks to Ms Joyce. While thanking the speaker, PP Hubert mentioned that he would be much appreciated if the UPS new scheme could cover his China trade for Debt Protection.

News Abroad -

Our 50th Anniversary programme reached far and near. One of our former members, Richard Yau in New York, U.S.A. read the brochure with delight and emailed us his comment as follows"

"Hi, Peter, Thank you ever so much for sending me a copy of the HKIE 50th Anniversary Souvenir Programme. It is extremely well put together ! HKIE has quite an impressive history. I read the congratulatory letters from the current and past officiasl with great interest. The great collection of photographs through the years most certainly confirmed that you are quite a man-about- town ! It was great to see the familiar faces in the souvenir programme !

Once again, thank you and I owe you a dinner.

Best,
Richard Yau"

District News

A joint meeting of the five Rotary clubs in area 3, namely

R/C of HK Island East
R/C of Hong Kong South
R/C of Victoria
R/C of Queensway &
R/C of Quarry Bay

was held on the 7th October 2004 from 7.30 p.m. at the Hong Kong Football Club, Happy Valley, Hong Kong. There were around 60 participants, including the club presidents, DG Alex Mak, DGE Peter Wan, Assistant Governor Ada Cheng, District Secretary Tony Wong, PDG Peter Hall and PDG Vincent To were also present. President Derek Roberts of R/C of Queensway acted as chairman of the meeting which started on time according to schedule.

To start the ball rolling, D.G. Alex Mak delivered his key note speech which lasted for half an hour touching on various clubs projects, recruitment of potential members, Rotary Foundation, Interact and Rotaract, etc., covering the four avenues of service. After his inspiring talk, Question & Answer time was arranged for the audience. Funny though, no questions were raised. Were they all shy away or they must have fully understood what the D.G. had explained in brief. The next item was a video show on the history of Rotary of the by gone days to be followed by a slide show and report on Rotary Centennial Gobi Race 2004 by AG Ada. The Gobi race was a Fund Raising event and the proceeds would go to the PolioPlus Programme expecting to totally eradicate Polio in the surface of the earth in the year 2005.

Before adjourning the joint meeting, President Angela Yeung was invited to give a vote of thanks to D.G. Alex for his effort to make his official visit to all the five clubs in this new system.

Joke

Two alligators are sitting on the edge of a swamp. The small one turns to the big one and says; I don't understand how you can be so much bigger than me. We're the same age, we were the same size as kids... I just don't get it."

"Well," says the big alligator, "what have you been eating?"

"Lawyers, same as you," replies the small alligator. "Hm... Well, where do you catch'em?"

"Down at that law firm on the edge of the swamp."

"Same here. Hm... How do you catch'em?"

"Well, I crawl under a BMW and wait for someone to unlock the door. Then I jump out, bite'em, shake the shit out of 'em and eat'em!"

"Ah!" says the big alligator, "I think I see your problem. See, by the time you get done shakin' the shit out of a lawyer, there's nothing' left but lips and a briefcase..."
