It was a pity that some of you could not make it the meeting today. Firstly, the soy sauce chicken as a starter was a real treat. Secondly, the speaker today has shown us some photos which was just out of this world. So it was a feast for the eye and the stomach. What more can one want?
Acting President Rudy started the meeting. By now, he has had a thorough training for the coming season. A warm welcome was extended to Rotarian Tony from Princeton Corridor, New Jersey, who has visited us in the past.
Laurence has been away to Osaka, Japan and Singapore. According to him, it was very hectic.
Birthday day was none other than our PP Tim. He invited our Louis Armstrong (nee PP John) to lead the birthday song.
Acting President Rudy then announced that the District Conference would be held on Saturday. The house of Friendship will be organized by Rtn. Rudy and Rotaractors from HKIE.
Then Acting President Rudy presented a compiled set of Tung Feng for last year to Uncle Peter. This was compiled, guess who? By PP John, of course. A set was already sent to IPP Chris.
SAA Laurence announced that this week's donation was HK$1,000 and US10, with generous contribution from our birthday boy.
The speaker, Dr. Pierre Lam, was introduced by Rtn. Dr. Tony. Pierre was a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery. But he was also a specialist in photography.
He was here to promote a photographic exhibition with the theme - "Season - a time to heal". The venue and time of this exhibition is set out at the end of this report.
The aim of this exhibition is to create awareness of the AIDS epidemic by raising funds for the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation towards "AIDS Education"
The photos were taken at different places for each season. Except for the winter, the rest had been taken this year. For Spring, the photos were taken at ??, one of the most beautiful mountains of China. For Summer, the photos were taken in Yunan. For Autumn, the photos were taken at ???and ?? ? For winter, the photos were taken in Africa and European Alps.
Pierre divided the photos by the season and asked us to swap them round.
They were all photos of nature. They reflected the change of the seasons and captured its beauty and vitality.
In the face of such serious epidemic as AIDS, nature does indeed provide comfort and may be a lesson or two for us.
"A picture is worth a thousand words". So go and have a look at the exhibition and donate as you will.
May be the theme could be "Season - a time to heal and a time to give."
After Pierre's speech, Acting President thanked him and we toasted to RI and Rotary Club of Princeton, New Jersey.

LIFELINE EXPRESS
JOURNEY OF LIGHT
A TRAIN THAT RESTORES EYE SIGHT AND RETURNS HOPEThe "Lifeline Express" funded by the Impact Hong Kong Foundation is a purpose built eye hospital train, donated by Hong Kong to the People of Mainland China on July 1, 1997. According to the Chinese Ministry of Health, there are four million cataract patients and every year there is an increase of four hundred thousand cases.
This hospital train is custom built, equipped with the latest medical equipment and eye-care technology. The four compartment train, consists of a consultation clinic, a laboratory, an operating theatre, a recovery room, beds for patients, a multi function conference room and living quarters for medical staff. "Lifeline Express" does not only provide free operation for poverty-stricken cataract patients, it also facilitates medical practitioners in Hong Kong and the Mainland to work together and to benefit from an exchange of expertise. In 1999, due to the continued generous support and donation from the Hong Kong people, a second train started its Journey of Light and today, three trains, in operation, have traveled to 33 cities, and over 33,000 operations performed. The Mainland was grateful and impressed with the success of "Lifeline Express", and people wanted to contribute. In 2002, Lifeline Express applied for a charitable license in China and in January 2003, Chinese Foundation for Lifeline Express was established and Mainland Chinese are now able to participate and contribute to "Lifeline Express".
Removing cataract and restoring sight is not the only goal of "Lifeline Express". At present, the patients have to wait for the arrival of the train, in order to get cure. The trains are only stationed in each town for three months, therefore only a limited operations can be performed. It is now our greatest wish to build as many eye-clinics/training centers as our budget allows, in existing hospitals located in different parts of China. Hopefully, these clinics can be linked to Hong Kong through satellite and training can be in process constantly and the patients no longer have to wait for the trains.
Cataract is normally an elderly person's disease, but in Mainland China, children at birth or as young as a couple of months suffer from this disease. If enough donation and support are generated from the public, then it is also the wish of Impact Hong Kong Foundation to start a research project, hoping to find the answer as to why cataract disease hit Chinese children as well as the elderly. Prevention is always better then cure.
"Lifeline Express" is a gift of love and sharing, it deserves all the assistance and support from all walks of life. For a mere HK$2,000 (US$ 300), sight is restored, hope is returned, the entire family's future is changed.
A note from PDG Uncle Peter The by-Laws of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East dating back to 1971 under Article 1, Section 1(b) reading as follows:
No elected officer or director shall serve in the same post of officer or director for more than three successive year
had been declared null and void since we adopted a revised By-Laws in 1992 up to the present time.
Joke & Cartoon
A guy and a girl meet at a bar. They get along so well that they decide to go to the girl's place. A few drinks later, the guy takes off his shirt and then washes his hands. He then takes off his trousers and washes his hands again.
The girl has been watching him and says, "You must be a dentist." The guy, surprised, says "Yes....how did you figure that out?"
"Easy," she replied, "you keep washing your hands."One thing led to another and they make love. After they are done, the girl says, "You must be a good dentist."
The guy, now with a boosted ego says, "Sure, I'm a good dentist, how did you figure that out?" "Didn't feel a thing!"+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A man walked into a supermarket with his zipper down.
A lady cashier walked up to him and said, "Your barracks door is open."
This is not a phrase men normally use, so he went on his way looking a bit puzzled.
When he was about done shopping, a man came up and said, "Your fly is open." He zipped up and finished his shopping.
He then intentionally got in the line to check out where the lady was that told him about his "barracks door".
He was planning to have a little fun with her. When he reached her counter he said, "When you saw my barracks door open did you see a soldier standing in there at attention?"
The lady (being smarter than a man) thought for a moment and said, "No, no I didn't. All I saw was a disabled veteran sitting on two
duffel bags."
