Last Week's Proceedings
(8th December., 2004)

Pres. Rudy welcomed three visiting Rotarians to our meeting today. They are Rtn Kelvin White (South Brisbane, Australia), PP Meggy Tseung (Peninsula Sunrise) & PP John Chan (HKNE).

Pres. Rudy then invited Acting Sergeant-At-Arms John Yao to report on his harvest for today. Rtn John V reported a very good collection of $1,450.

Pres. Rudy then asked Uncle Peter to explain about our election today. He told us that in the past our PE is automatically elected President for the following year but this year's PE informed our President that due to the pressure of work, he is unable to take up the duties of the President. Therefore we must elect another President-Elect and Vice President for 2005-2006.

While the election committee is preparing for the election, President Rudy asked Dir Andy to report on our Christmas Party for the Victoria Park School for the Deaf.

Dir Andy explains that on December 19th we will give a party for about 70 children from the deaf school and 10 teachers at the Brazilian BBQ Restaurant at 12:00pm to 1:00pm. He thanked members for their kind donation of $8,000 to make this event to come true. Rtn Kishu asked, "Why do have to ask members for donation for this event. Don't we have budget for this every year?" Dir Andy replied that this was a very good question. The reason is that the Victoria Park School will be closed on August of 2006. So we didn't budget any money for this function. However the VPSD requested, (very late) to continue this tradition. We have no alternative but to do it this way in order not to interfere with our normal budget.

Pres. Rudy asked for volunteer to be Santa Claus this year because he cannot do it this year due to a previous engagement. So we do need a volunteer.

PP Andrew declared the election is now opened and asked the committee to distribute the election forms, and asked every one to vote for the names on this form.

He then asked the committee to collect all the election forms and count them.

PP Andrew requested PP Hubert to report on the results as follows:

President is Eddy Wong
PE & VP is Paul Chan
Hon Sec is Andy Wong
Hon Tres. is Laurence Chan

The six Directors are:

PP Henry Chan
PP Desmond Cheung
Jason Chiu
PP John Kwok
PP Stephen Liu
PP Tim Lui

Congratulations to all the elected officers for 2005-2006.

PP Andrew then formally declared the election proceeding closed.

Pres Rudy thanked PP's Andrew, Hubert & C.Y. for supervising the election. He then invited PE Eddy to say a few words.

PE Eddy thanked everyone for his votes & said it was an honored to be elected President for 2005-2006. He said he will try….no…. not try but commit himself to build this Rotary club to be the best club in our district. He hopes every member will support him in the coming year.

PP Hubert then said since he will not be present for next week's meeting, "Could I celebrate my birthday this week instead?" There was a thunderous applause for a resounding "YES". Since we are celebrating birthdays Pres. Rudy declared that there are two more birthday boys this week. They are, PP Desmond & IPP Henry as well. Therefore we have three. He asked PP Hubert who should lead the birthday songs. He replied, "Of course, since we have only one lady among us, this honor goes to PP Meggy!"

Pres. Rudy then closed this meeting with a toast to RI coupled with the rotary club of South Brisbane, Peninsula Sunrise & HKNE.

African Roulette

The ambassador of a small African nation chanced to visit Russia, and was entertained by his opposite number, the Russian ambassador. For three days, the African ambassador was wined, dined, and generally treated to the best hospitality that Russia had to offer.

On the final day of his visit, the Russian ambassador said, "As your stay is coming to an end, it is time for you to play our traditional game, Russian roulette. One of the six chambers of this gun is loaded - you spin the cylinder, point the gun at your head, and pull the trigger."

This phased the African slightly, but he was a proud man of a warrior people, and to show fear would be unthinkable. Both men took their guns, spun, and pulled the triggers.

Both chambers were empty, and both ambassadors breathed a sigh of relief.

The African ambassador was much impressed with the couragous game, and thought hard about the subject before the Russian Ambassador was due to visit his country the next year.

When the visit came, the African ambassador treated the Russian with all hospitality, until the final day of his stay. Leading him to a private room in the palace, the African ambassador spoke, "Now it is time for you to sample our game, African roulette". So saying, he led the Russian into the room, the only occupants of which were six beautiful, naked women.

The African ambassador said, "These women are the most beautiful members of one of our tribes. Any one of them will give you a oral sex - take your pick".

The Russian was not entirely averse to this idea, but he couldn't see the connection with Russian Roulette. He said, "Well, ok, great, but where's the roulette part? Where's the danger?"

With a big grin on his face, the African ambassador answered: "One of them's a cannibal
