Rotary Information

December is Family Month

Stepping into the first day of December this year, our President Laurence Chan had organized a fireside meeting with members and their families at his residence at Fairview Park, Yuen Long, N.T. in response to Family Month. As reported earlier, 'basin food' was one of the main tradition foods hosted by President Laurence with lot of alcohol and soft drinks.

Apart from the fireside gathering as mentioned above, Past President George Leung also organized a mini golf tournament in Chung Shan Golf Club in Zhuhai, China on 7th December 2007 when all the golfing members enjoyed a fine day of golf. We all ended up at a most luxurious restaurant which served palatable Cantonese food for dinner. This was a good treat to all the golfers by PP George. Thank you, George!

In order to fully utilize the Family Month, we are having our Christmas party on the 19th (Wednesday) December 2007 during our regular lunch meeting. Members and their family members, especially the young ones, must attend the function and to greet each other for a joyful Yuletide and watch for Santa Claus arrival with his heavy bag. Christmas menu has been arranged from the hotel.

Besides all the enjoyments, we do not forget to serve the community, either locally or abroad. We have water project and also educational project in China. Joint project with our sister club had just been lined up. A comprehensive list of projects for this Rotary year will announce in the coming issues of the Tung Feng Bulletin.

Subject: Rotary and polio

Dear PDG Peter and PP John,

I have a smile that encircles my head several times.

At my District conference in April, Gate's Sr was our key note speaker (that was arranged in April 2006). I had also invited RIP Bill Boyd to attend and meet with Gates. Due to the Council on Legislation preparation meetings that same weekend, Boyd could not attend so he had Giay, then Pres of TRF, attend. Giay gave the key note address on Thursday night with Gates in the audience. I arranged for the two of them to have a private breakfast in Giay's suite Friday morning, April 20, which lasted over two hours. Not sure exactly what they talked about (now I know). Friday noon Gates gave the key note presentation with Giay in the audience.
After Gates' presentation, I gave to each of them a framed mint sheet of 1957 US stamps, "Honoring those who helped fight polio. Little did I realize at the time how understated that would be.

Giay, Boyd and the others made the Gates donation happen.

But I am smiling, knowing I helped.

It was during my years with HKIE that I was converted from a person who attends Rotary meetings to become a Rotarian. I especially thank both of you as well as the other HKIE members. Again. Rotary indeed changes lives. I know, because it changed mine!

Please give my holiday greetings to all.

Thanks again.
YIRS,

David Waring
PDG District 6440

LAUGH FOR THE WEEK

Hermaphrodite

A woman gives birth to a baby and afterward the doctor comes into the room and says, "I have something to tell you about your child..."

The woman slowly sits up with a worried look on her face and says, "What's wrong with it?"

The doctor says, "There's nothing really wrong with it, it's just a little different! It's a hermaphrodite."

The woman looks confused. "A hermaphrodite, what's that?"

The doctor replies, "It has both features of a male and a female."

The woman looks at him and says "Whew... you mean it has a penis AND a brain?"
