13th December, 2006

Pres. Paul chaired the luncheon meeting and preformed the following activities:

Firstly, he presented the birthday gifts to our birthday boys. They were PP Hubert and PP Henry. PP David Li was selected to lead the birthday song in Putonghua.

Secondly Pres. Paul made the following announcements:
Our first women Trustee in the Rotary foundation – Trustee Carolyn Jones will visit us in Hong Kong. A “Foundation Thanksgiving Dinner” will be held on 9th January 2007 at the World Trade Centre Club to formally thank the Rotarians who have made donations to the Rotary Foundation this Rotary year.

We have received one nominee for the RYLA, Mr William Chung, from the Rotaract Club of Hong Kong Island East. The final date for the application will be on 15 December.

On 16th December, there will be a Rotary Centenary Challenge Cup (horse Racing) organized by the Rotary Club of Kwai Chung. The fee is HK$550 per person with free entrance badges.

The District Sports Day will be held on the 17th December 2006. The venue is Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground.

A district outing event will be held on 21st January 2007 to the Hong Kong Wetland Park. The cost HK$138 includes meal and transportation.

After the announcement, Pres. Paul invited PP David Li to talk about changing the date of Uncle Peter Golf Cup Tournament. He urged all members to join this event. PP David Li further explained about the score measuring method, the best player may not be the winner of the game, therefore everybody will have a chance to win the tournament.

PP Rudy then made his SAA report of the Red box collection amounting to HK$2,200.

ANNUAL MEETING CALLED TO ORDER
Pres. Paul called the annual meeting to order and attended by 21 members. They were PDG Peter Hall, PDG YK Cheng, Pres. Paul Chan, IPP Eddy Wong, PE Laurence Chan, HS Andy Wong, HT PP Rudy Law, PP Andrew Chen, PP Tim Lui, PP John Kwok, PP Hubert Chan, PP David Li, PP Henry Chan, PP Alex Ling, PP Stephen Liu, Rtn Kishu Nairan, Rtn. Herman Lam, Rtn Tony Loy, Rtn. Kenny Chan, Rtn. Norman Lee, & Rtn. Peter Yeung.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA OF ANNUAL MEETING AND THE MINUTES OF LAST ANNUAL MEETING
For the last Annual Meeting minutes, PDG Peter Hall proposed to adopt the minutes and was seconded by PP Rudy Law. Then Pres. Paul Chan proposed to adopt the AGM agenda. It was seconded by PP Andrew Chen and passed without amendment.

ELECTION:
PP Andrew Chen was invited to chair the election, with PP Tim & PP David assisting him to do the voting counts. The election was conducted in an efficient manner, started on 1:35 pm and ended by 1:45 pm.

The election results were as follows:-

President Elect elected for 2007 2008 : Andy Wong (unanimous vote)
Honorary Secretary elected for 2007 2008 : Norman Lee (unanimous vote)
Honorary Treasurer elected for 2007 2008 : Rudy Law (unanimous vote)

PP Andrew announced the President Elect 2006 – 2007 Laurence Chan who should be automatically the President for 2007 – 2008 without voting since he is a President-Elect.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS
PP John Kwok asked Pres. Paul to announce the District Membership Development event to be held on 5th January 2007 at Harbour View Renaissance Hotel 6:30pm – 9:30pm. The cost is HK$350. The speaker is Dr. Sarah Liao and she will speak on real environment problems in Hong Kong.

Rtn. Kishu asked if we should cancel the meeting on 27th December 2007 & 21st February 2007 due to poor attendance in the past years in order to avoid the minimum charges required by the Excelsior Hotel. Pres. Paul addressed that by principle, we should not cancel any meeting because of worrying the poor attendance. Pres. Paul asked members’ opinion on cancelling the meetings and there were 10 members showed their interest to come to the meeting on 27th December. Pres. Paul decided to pass this issue to the board meeting held on 14th December for the final decision.

Meeting adjoined at 1:55 and Pres. Paul Chan proposed a toast to RI, coupled with Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East. The new board of 2007 – 2008 were invited for group photos.



Rotary Information

RI Director for 2008-2010

The nominating of RI Director was originally from Zone 4-A but it has been changed to Zone 4-B which comprised of district 3450, 3460, 3470, 3480, 3490, 3500, 3510 and 3520 as per circular issued by Rotary International dated 15th November 2006 as hereunder.

“To Rotary Clubs in Zone 4:

This form is provided for the use of any club in the above zone desiring to submit to the Nominating Committee a suggestion for RI Director (who must come from section B of the above districts) such person to be elected at the 2007 RI Convention to serve during 2008-2010.

No club should feel obliged to do so, but any suggestion to the Nominating Committee must be submitted on this official suggestion form. A suggested candidate must meet the qualifications in article VI, section 6.050.3 and article X, sections 10.030 and 10.050 of the RI bylaws. No member, alternate member or candidate for membership on a Nominating Committee whether elected or not, and any candidate who is elected and subsequently resigns  from such committee shall be eligible to be nominated for the respective office in the year in which the committee serves. A candidate must have served as an RI District Governor prior to being proposed.

This form, signed by the candidate, must reach the Nominating Committee not later than 1st January 2007 at the address of the convener shown below. A recent photograph of the candidate must be attached, as well as a written statement from a physician certifying that the candidate is in good health and physically able to perform the duties of a Director of RI. Do not attach any additional pages to this form.

As provided in article X, section 10.050 of the RI bylaws, brochures, literature or letters are not to be distributed or circulated  by a candidate for Director, or by others on the candidate’s behalf, except as may be expressly authorized by the Board of Directors of RI. The bylaws further provide that under certain circumstances, the RI Board may disqualify from election any candidate who violates the provisions prohibiting campaigning, canvassing, or electioneering for any elective position in RI.

Any club desiring to submit a suggestion must complete the following form, include all requested information, and mail it to the convener of the Nominating Committee as noted below so as to be received not later than 1st January 2007. 

The said forms are available upon request from your district governor.
