Last Week's Proceedings
(22nd December.,
2004)
It was our last lunch meeting of the half yearly session of this Rotary year, we held our Christmas Meeting with a palatable menu consisting of Turkey and Christmas budding together with red wine for this festive occasion.
President Rudy announced a hearty welcome back to PDG Uncle Peter who got well after a short stay in the St. Teresa Hospital, followed by an introduction of his guest, Martin Mak, his mentee student from Shue Yan College.
PP John Kwok also invited an ambassadorial scholar, Ms Angela Ellermeier, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Landau (District 1860, Germany) who is studying at the University of Hong Kong and under the counseling of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Harbour. Angela took a few minutes to explain the German tradition in Christmas and brought along her specially home made cookies to share with us.
The luncheon was set up with festive decoration while each member was presented with a useful gift by President Rudy. (the gift was a nail grooming & ear cleaner tool set, well recommended by Rtn. John Yao).
Director Andy also donated his special tea leaves to the eight members sponsoring the Victoria Park School for the Deaf BBQ lunch party last Sunday.
The Sergeant-at-Arms collection netted HK$600 (including Rtn. Tony's re-donated Kingspark calendar purchased by Rtn. John Yao at $100 each). The red box donation to the Philippine flooding would be deferred to January 2005 when more members returned from their vacation.
To have a Christmas touch, we invited our former member, Mr. Joseph Chan to entertain us with his famous guitar together with the singing of the Christmas carol headed by PP John Luk, (Pavarotti the 2nd). Rtn. Kishu dished out the song sheets and all members joined in the carol singing with a last verse - "We wish you a Merry Christmas". At a special request from the audience, the guitarist Joseph Chan sang a Chinese song to end the meeting while President Rudy spent the last 2-minute to crack a joke. He added his wish to every member a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you again in 2005.

Highlights of Actions Taken by the Board of Directors of RI
The second meeting of the RI Board of Directors was held at Rotary World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA, from 30th October to 5th November 2004. At this meeting, the Board reviewed reports from 17 committees and recorded 138 decisions.
ADMINISTRATION
Taking the District Leadership Plan (DLP) concept to the club level, the Board approved the Club Leadership Plan as the administrative framework of an effective Rotary Club. The plan identifies the following as the essential elements of an effective club.
Sustain and/or increase membership base.
Implement successful projects that address the needs of the community and communities in other countries; Support The Rotary Foundation through both financial contributions and program participation; Develop leaders capable of serving Rotary beyond the club level. Assisting clubs to develop their own club leadership plan is now a required component of the DLP.
The Board amended the Recommended Rotary Club Bylaws. The amended bylaws establish the four Avenues of Service as "the philosophical and practical framework" for the work of a club, and suggest a new club committee structure based on the Club Leadership Plan (with standing committees for membership, public relations, administration, service projects, and The Rotary Foundation).
The 2004 Council on Legislation referred numerous resolutions to the Board for study. In response, the Board agreed that a club must have at least 20 members (down from 25) to sponsor a new Rotary club. Encourages clubs, in their vocational service activities, to offer professional support to youth who start their own business. Reaffirmed the importance of a president's representative at all district conferences. Reaffirmed its support for local public relations initiatives. Where culturally appropriate, encourages Rotarians to arrange visits to heads of state on Rotary's 100th birthday - 23 February 2005 - or at some time during February 2005 to carry messages of peace in honor of Rotary's Centennial. Established a committee to review all aspects of the Council on Legislation. Responses to all resolutions will be provided to the proposers in a timely manner.

Three Feelings: What's the difference between stress, tension and panic? Stress is when wife is pregnant, Tension is when girlfriend is pregnant, and Panic is when both are pregnant.
