RC of New Territories is to sponsor IVE Lee Wai Lee, RC of HK City North to sponsor Morrison Hill and RC of HK South to sponsor Chai Wan. Although our club may not be ready to form Rotaract club at IVE, we can always do so in future and collaborate with them in carrying out community services as they are willing to do so.Next Pres Paul invited Pres. Jerry Wan of the Rotaract Club of Lingnan University to make his report.
- Their club has held an orientation night for the students in September.
- Also in September they have visited an Elderly home in Tuen Mun. This visit has very special meaning to the students because the visit was made during the Mid-Autumn festival. They have enjoyed a very good visit with them.
- They have hosted a visit from Japanese students in October and November. Their External Vice President Su Miu have received some very good information on the Japanese visitors. They learned that in February there will be a scout Jamboree.
Pres. Jerry took several questions from the floor. Questioned about the number of members they have, he revealed that there are 70 –80 members in their club in year one and two. When asked about their activities for the second half of the year, he said that their term is almost over (from June 2006 to Feb 2007) so they have no more activities for the rest of their term.
Pres. Jerry revealed that they have a problem with their school student union. Because their school year have just started in late January so their union have not been formed yet. If the union remain unformed after the election in January 2007 they (the Rotaract Club of Lingnan) will have to be disbanded.
Club adviser Andy then asked whether any one can help them to please contact him or PE Laurence.
Our next speaker is Rotaractor Collin Chan who reported that in September their club made a visit to the Tung Chung low income families. They held a discussion on what they can do to help out. They have some suggestions such as visits to food processing factory or TVB for some entertainment activities for them.
In October/ November they hosted a visit from Japanese sister club. They took them to local visits to Disneyland, and dinner at local restaurants. They also took them on a hiking trip to Tai Tam Reservoir.
The activities of the club for the remaining half year will be to promote the Tung Chung Areas to see what other activities they can plan. They are proposing a visit to TVB in April. And in March they are expecting some visits from Taiwan and they hope to have some exchanges cultural activities with them.He asked for any questions. It was revealed that the club has only 5-6 members so far but they are working on recruiting more members. They are meeting on the Internet and conducting activities there.
Next Rtn. Dr.Tony was invited to speak. He talked about an interview with Rick Warren who is a pastor of Saddleback Church in California. Rick Warren is the author of book called “A Purpose Driven Life”. In an interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:
“People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.”
“One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body—but not the end of me.”
“I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act –the dress rehearsal.”
“God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity. We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn’t going to make sense.”
Then Rtn Dr. Tony changed to the second story concerning a convict who escape from the courthouse to which he was being tried. The convict named Brian Nichole was accused of rape and murder. He made a dramatic escape from the trial by killing four people including the trial judge and now held hostage a widow named Ashley Smith a mother of a small child. The convict held Smith captive for several days and during these days Smith feared that he was going to kill her. But she began to know the convict after a few days. The whole story is connected to the first story because Smith began reading the book called “ A Purpose Driven Life” to Nichols. Smith began to win over the convict and allowed her to leave to pick up her young daughter from school. After she left she reported to the police the whereabouts of the convict. Then the police came and captured the convict.
The whole story can be downloaded from the Internet at
Pres. Paul thanked the speaker for the very interesting and inspirational stories.
He then invited the acting SAA PDG Uncle Peter to report on his collection for today. But first Uncle Peter said he must collect a fine from PP Li whose announcement about our PDG Peter Hall golf Tournament as being held on 16th January 2006. But it is being held in 2007? He then announced the SAA collection of $800 from many loyal members of our club.
