Message from
President Keith Lam
The
President of Rotary International says ……
“We feel
that no man has the right to live in a community, take unto
himself all of the good things of life-social advantages for
his family, educational opportunities for his children
without giving something of his own time, his own talent,
his own energy, and his own means for the benefit of the
common good. The task of Rotary is to point the way, to
reach the ideal of “service not self”, until men are
inspired with the belief that they will prosper only as they
serve their fellow men.
“He
profits most who serves best”
”SO
I BELIEVE”
Our club prays for the
Blessings of “Meridional” Breeze, i.e. Southern Wind, in
accordance with the ideal of an ancient Chinese king,
namely:-
“With the
Meridional Breeze, may go the ire and complaints of my
People……”
In
fact, every member of our club aims at being a Molecule of
the Meridional Breeze!
We are
gravely concerned about the needs of the people in our
district, and we have managed to complete a number of a
community projects, such as:-
a.
Scholarships awarded to various schools,
b.
Financial and moral support to the “Interact”
Movement at St. Stephen’s College in Stanley,
c.
7 projects concerning Youths and Teenagers,
d.
3 projects for the Aged and Handicapped, and
e.
3 projects of General Community Service.
Our club
has been enjoying very good Fellowship not only among
Members, but also with many guests and visitors, who
participate in our magnificent meeting-place as well as the
varied and interesting Weekly Programmes during the year
under review.
At this
stage, I feel somewhat relieved when looking forward to the
prospect of stepping down soon from our club’s presidency,
with great responsibility and onerous duties involved, I
have been under the “guilty conscience” that my limited
ability may cause disappointment to our members and
well-wishers. However, it is gratifying to place on record
that our club has been able to go through a year of
comparatively significant accomplishments, due to the
untiring efforts and fine cooperation on the part of our
members, and I must extend to them (in the capacity of
out-going president) my hearty thanks for their warm
support. I have no doubt that our club, under the able
leadership of incoming president, Rtn Robin, will score
greater achievements.
It is my
sincere hope that the “Meridional Breeze” of the coming year
will focus more attention of the Employers in our district
on their Employees’ welfare, such as providing free
luncheons and recreational facilities. In this connection,
I would appeal to Government:-
(i)
in giving due encouragement to Employers’
provision for stall welfare, such as “canteens” and
“recreation rooms”; and
(ii)
in granting to these Employers the privilege
of having the aforesaid areas so allotted for staff benefit
“exempted” from “Building Coverage” in the factory buildings
when calculating the “Maximum Percentage of Site Coverage”
and “Plot Ratio”.
I am sure
that
ALL OF US WOULD BELIEVE
in Shakespeare’s well-known saying that
reminds us of the quality of Mercy……
“It
droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the place
beneath: it is twice blest, it blesseth him that gives, and
him that takes ……….”
