Meeting of 24 June 1999

Announcement:

  • July 1st meeting cancelled.

  • July 8th Normal meeting at HongkongCountry Club.

  • July 12th board meeting at President Gary's office.  Others welcomed, especially new members.

  • July 15th, at CCC evening meeting.

  • Happy 30th Anniversary to Rtn. Francesco.

Fellowship Chairman PP Tom asked our Rotarians to introduce their guests.

PP Nick has brought his Chinese in-laws and his 2 law students Norton and Dominic.

Rtn. Brian Kieran, in very good form, brought Mrs. Sylvie Kieran,


Highlight of the Year:  1998-1999.06.24

Our president noted that this is the second happiest day of his life as reminded by PP Gaston.   In addition, Our club is very successful this year.

  • Many Rotary clubs in HK are losing 1/3 of members.  We have grown to 50 including our Beijing member.  Local member is at 45 members.  Attendance is at 70% and stable.

  • Good Community project event at Sandy Bay.  Thanks to Rtn. Gary

  • Rtn. Nico. Leper's project is off to a great start.

  • Jiu Juang housing project is successful for the whole HK district. 

  • Our Jubilee van donated to Cheshire Home.  See Photos.

  • International Conference:  President Nick and our Rtn. Francesco joined the other 17,000 Rotarians in the Singapore conference.  Many Rotarians were not aware of re-starting Rotary in China.  Rotary has a sign up on a hill in Jiu Jiang.  The project is very cost effective with $800/house.  Those houses are available for the flooded victims together with a primary school.


President Nick thanked the following persons :

  1. PP John and CP Dennis are both helpful within the club.  PP John is also helpful our our club. 

  2. PP John will be the World Bank expert in textile in Pakistan, Egypt, Vietnam, and Oxfordshire.

  3. Rtn. Francesco for creating entertaining events throughout the year.

  4. Rtn. Bob for finding & bringing interesting speakers on time with their coordination.

  5. Rtn. Simon has made our Rotary Club the only club with accounts most up-to-date, the only club with payment in advance in our district.  All transaction details are clear. 

  6. Rtn. Gary for running most successful Interact group in HK at HKIS - Ms. Joanne Chow.

  7. Rtn. Sam for being The Most Stoic Rotarian.  He will be in a long holiday away for 5 weeks.  President Nick described Rtn. Sam in a "Monica position."   Monica position ? President Nick please explained.

  8. Rtn. Brian for being  The Most Determined Rotarian.  The big stroke recovered successfully. Rtn. Brian indicated that his wife and our President has assisted behind the scene work.

  9. Rtn. Nico Kooij for starting and working on a successful Lepers project in China with the possibility of helping grant.  In return, Rtn Nico thanked our president for maintaining a good friendly environment. 

  10. Rtn. Deborah received a thank you gift from our board of director.  President Nick note that he is difficult to work as with normal barrister.

  11. Incoming President Gary kindly thanked our outgoing president for improving the club to good health.

  12. PP Gaston and Rtn. Deborah and myself for creating the wonderful ISP and our  most frequent updated bulletin on web in HK.


Contribution / Donations:

Our Rtn. Mille received Donations $700 and Raffle $450


Handover

Gary gave "pissed" President Pin to Nick.  [No typing error & insisted by many non-specific sitting next to me.]  Our new President thanked IPP Nick for a wonder year with the following director announcement.
