Club 888 Lucky Draw has been raising funds for our Community Service Fund successfully from our fellow Rotarians, friends and businesses for the 19th consecutive year.
Our International Community Service Project, also a Rotary District 3450 project, is a major program which aims to assist nearly 10,000 people affected by leprosy in Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan, China. Our committee has established a working relationship with the mainland NGO Handa to run the site and the development of people affected by leprosy focusing on their self-help functions. The use of the land and buildings have been acquired. They are being renovated in phases to turn them into suitable facilities to assist the people affected by leprosy.
Last year, our club has allocated of our community service budget of about HK$150,000 to this Leprosy Project. Together with other Rotary Clubs, Rotary District 3450, St. Stephen's Church, The Kadoorie Foundation, and other benefactors, it is planned that around HK$3,000,000 will be spent on this project in the four years 2004-2007.
Our board has set a direction also to put more emphasis on local projects. Contributions are being considered for the usual Duchness of Kent Hospital, KELY Support Group, HK Sea School, Operation Smile, Hong Chi Association and Crossroad International. Our Rotary Club focus are Family of Rotary, Literacy, Water Resources, and Health concern. Our Club organsied English Dialogue Sessions last year to provide opportunity for Chinese primary school students of local primary schools to speak in English with English speaking Rotary Interactors in a fun environment outside of regular classes.
Other than previously allocated and approved, our board will be finalizing our local and international community service project. The more money this raffle raises, the more people we can help, so please contribute generously.
