President Bob welcomed Rotarians and Rotariannes to our regular meeting. Fellowship Chairman Bernie introduced Visiting Rotarians: „X PP Anthony Leung, Club of Quarry Bay „X PP Joop Litmaath, Club of HK V.P. Simon Leung presented a banner from the Rotary Club of (1) Taipei South and (2) Taiwan Twins. President Bob inducted Rtn. Hugo Smid. All fellow Rotarians stood and welcomed Rtn. Hugo to join the Club. President Bob further announced that Rtn. Hugo Smid would join the International Service Committee, which is chaired by PP Tom Sheppard. The following announcement were made: „X 31 August: DG John Wan official visit to our Club. Board of Directors shall gather at the Golf Club at 12 noon that day to meet with DG John Wan. Sergeant-at-Arm Leslie announced that fines and contributions totaled HK$880, the raffle raised HK$390, making a total of HK$1,270. Speaker: Mr. Mark Pixley Mr. Pixley is Director of Human Development Centre of the Institute of Cultural Affairs Ltd. Mr. Pixley graduated with an MBA from Stern Business School, New York Univeristy. Mr. Pixley has years of experience in organizational change and process assessment. He is facilitator for groups to discuss on organization, clarify visions and achieve goals. Mr. Pixley conducted an exercise with Rotarians. All Rotarians were to form groups of three to discuss and share their memories, and then write down two events that happened during the year of July 1999 to June 2000 at the Club. After few minutes of group discussion, the followings were mentioned by the Rotarians: „X Nov-99: Southern Sport Day „X Dec-99: Kent Children Hospital fund raising „X Jan-00: PP John Moody left „X Feb-00: Return of George „X Apr-00: Change of Club meeting venue; Return of Rtn. Patricio; Trip to Mai Po Reserve; Fund raising drive „X May-00: Annual Ball „X Jun-00: District Installation „X Jul-00: Handover to new Directors and officers „X Aug-00: New visitor badge „X Ongoing: Leprosy Project After the above discussion, participants concluded that they could not remember all that happened during the first six month of the year. Thereafter, it was a turning point and a major shift for the last six month of the year, which the participants concluded that it was a busy, productive and challenging period. Mr. Pixley concluded that it is always good for people to spend some time to rethink what they have done in the past while they are busy thinking about what to be done in the future. Mr. Pixley will email the above list of events that participants discussed for Rotarians to rethink about it. Rtn. Patricio thanked our speaker in his usual gracious manner. Everyone was then invited to drink the customary toast to the Rotary International and with that the meeting ended. |
