Report on the dinner meeting at
the
Hong Kong Golf Club
on 24th July 2003 at
13:00 by Lillian Lau
Soon after typhoon Imbuldo had left
Hong Kong, we had our lunch meeting
at 13:00 on 24th July
2003 (weather was unbelievably good
except windy).
Before the lunch, Mr. Tobias
Doeringer traveled from German and
carried their flags for us.
Our President Bernie Ting welcomed
our guest speaker Mr. Brian A.
Taylor and his assistant, Jane. The
announcements of the day were (1)
Board Meeting will be held on 31st
July after the regular lunch meeting
at about 2:00pm; (2) our Governor
says 2 more Rotary Clubs in Mongolia
had been admitted to the membership
of Rotary International since 18th
July 2003, namely The Rotary Club of
Niisel and The Rotary Club of
Zuunmod; (3) although every member
concerns our accounting situation,
President Bernie Ting, Treasurer
Angela and Executive Secretary
Lillian are still working on the
account and will issue the bill to
all members as soon as possible.
After the tasty lunch, PP Kishore
Sakhrani introduced our speaker, Mr.
Brian A. Taylor - an Investment
Consultant from Richmond Asset
Management in Hong Kong. He is a
qualifying and life membership of
The Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT)
and a one-year Top of the Table
qualifier.
His talk was entitled “Bull Market –
Japan Leads the Way”. Brian pointed
out that with their Funds
Optimization Service (FOS),
investors earned 20% more since
April while 59% more for last 19
months. He said, ‘to have the great
success, they rode the trend up, and
then locked in the profits when the
trend started to turn down.
People always said they have no time
concentrated on the stock market to
make money, because they have jobs’,
but Brain emphasized, ‘people should
prioritize, give time to their own
affairs and then get their money
working hard for them… It is time
for entering FOS because it is
unlimited upside’.
‘Most of the people put all of the
money on mortgage, but nowadays, the
interest rate of mortgage is just
2.5%, but if you use the money to
invest into a structure yielding
12%, this means for every $100,000
released you can make $12,000, with
interest of only $2,500. This
equals a net gain to you of $9,500.’
He gave out a very interesting
statistics, saying if people retire
over 55, one more years later
retirement will make the lifespan 2
years shorter (based on a research
from an US university). In other
words, this means the earlier
retirement will make your life
longer and have more time to enjoy
your life. One more information
from Brian was a lot of people in
big companies have a late retirement
because they cannot afford their
livings. In order to have an early
retirement, he stated that wise
investment could earn more money
than just investing on the house and
saving money in the bank.
