Report on the lunch meeting at the Hong Kong Golf Club on
4th December 2003 at 13:00 by Lillian Lau
Welcomed
all guests brought by our members, and our speaker Dr. Brain
Apthorp.
Today
was the Induction Day of our new member for Jim Wardell, who
was proposed by President Peter.
Jim is the Executive Chairman of JFAC Corporate Finance
Co., Ltd, and his classification is Financial Management.
After the induction ceremony by President Peter and
Sergeant-at-Arms IPP Bernie, Jim had become to be our member
now.
For
the Club 888, IPP Bernie said we had already sold out 408
tickets, still having less than 200 to go.
And after the draw on 27th November, the
ticket will reduce the price to $750.
PP
Nick Pirie will contact Dragon Air to get sponsorship on the
air ticket so as to reduce the transportation cost of Leprosy
Project. The
first phase of construction will be completed on 15th
-16th December 03, please feel free to go there and
investigate the progress of this project.
Just
before lunch, we had finished the Robin De Morgan Putting
Competition. This competition attracted 12 Rotarians and 1 guest player.
The weather was beautiful with a fresh breeze.
On the green the tension of the challenge was high and
every competitors concentrated on their shots with PP Bob
Wilson as the only hole-in-one player.
PP Gary Cheung took the lead ending with a stunning one
over pa score (21). A
tie-score (23) resulted with 2 players, PP Ronald Lu and PP
Mike Burrell shooting their best for the play-off, with PP
Mike Prevailing. Finally,
the Champion of 2003 is PP Gary Cheung, awarding a beautiful
Lamborghini Sport Case donated by Rtn Tobi.
Thank our Fellowship Chairman Francesco for his
contributions in organizing these exciting activities.
Besides, Francesco is going to organize the Club Golf
Tournament every month. Details will be announced later.
Besides, our Christmas Party will be held on 18th
December.
The
Osaka Conference will be held from 23rd to 26th May 2004 in
Osaka, Japan. In
order to get the early-bird discount, we need to submit the
applications before 15th December 2003.
In addition, we also have to check with the hotel so as
to ensure all of us can accommodate in the same hotel. Please
confirm the registration with Lillian.
Our
Rotavest have a very good augmentation (49%) this year,
increased from $192,006 to $286,163.
And we still have about $40,000 cash on hand, so we
need to decide which share we will buy.
Our speaker today was
Dr. Brain Apthorp. PP
Bob and PP Mike know him very well and PP Mike introduced Dr.
Apthorp to us. Dr. Apthorp has come to HK for a long time and he is a
medical specialist. He
just wrote a book about partnership and today’s topic was
entitled “Professional Partnership”.
Dr. Apthorp said partnership has several different
formats, for example, men and women, business, trustees and
etc. Different
formats have different kinds of partnership content.
Dr. Apthorp was very humorous and gave us happy time on
his topic. If our members are interested on this topic, it will be good
for you to purchase his book.
