Lunch Meeting of 8th January 2004

Lunch Meeting at the Hong Kong Golf Club on 8th January 2004 at 13:00 by Lillian Lau

Since President Peter had to attend an important meeting, IPP Bernie became our President today.  First of all, we would like to have auction on some of the Christmas gifts for our Christmas Party.  We had put the “Lee Kam Kee” Trolley-set and the Marco Polo Hotel 2-person Lunch Buffet for auction.  Congratulated that CP Denis and Rtn Suzanne got them, and we had a total of HK$1,700.00 from this auction.

Our Board Meeting will be held on 15th January 04 (before dinner meeting which is scheduled to be held at 6:30pm).  Club 888 tickets are still available, we hope our members can work harder on that.  Please keep in mind that the district Sports Day and the Interact Meeting will be held on 11th and 17th January, respectively.

Today, we had four-birthday boys, namely, PP Paul, IPP Bernie, PP George and Rtn Ernie.  PP Paul and IPP Bernie received the wine as birthday gifts, while PP George and Rtn Ernie need to wait until next meeting because their birthdays have not reached yet.

Rtn David reported on Leprosy Project, saying that it is going well, and the application for the Kadoorie Foundation’s fund is still under consideration.  Hopefully we will get their result next week.  Tony Leung, who is responsible for the finance of this project, will revise the budget period to calendar year to suit the Foundation.  The construction of the Centre (Building 1 and 4) in Xichang has been completed.  And Rtn John is working with PP Gaston, posting the news of the project onto our web site.

Although we had no speaker today, IPP Bernie had invited Rtn Suzanne to introduce the new program of the Ocean Park - Dolphin Encounter Education Program.  According to Rtn Suzanne, this program will give people a chance to touch the dolphin.  All people aged 8 years old or above can join it.  In this program, there will be 2 sessions everyday.  During each, 3 selected participants will have a chance to meet the animals.  As most people living in then urban have no chance to meet the animals, this program allows us contacting with the dolphins and know more about environmental conservation.

Besides, the Ocean Park will organize the Annual Conservation Day on 10th January 04 (Saturday), which is aimed to promote the conservation of marine mammals and their habitats.  It will have a ceremony and fun environmental booths with games designated by local schools and a fun workshop on conservation of marine mammals designated by the students of the City University of Hong Kong.  This activity is suitable for the whole family.
