President
Peter, IPP Bernie and Rtn. David Anderson just return from Xichang where they
attended the meeting there on our Leprosy Project. In order to liaise the
application for the relevant licenses they first met with the Liangshan
Prefecture Organization on the first day. They visited the school site on the
second day and noticed that the children are really in need of stationaries.
They have no paper, pen nor other supporting materials. The issue of licenses
has not been solved yet but generally speaking, this trip was fruitful.
Rtn
Francesco informed our members that our Club’s Horseracing Night would take
place on Wednesday 5th May and the Centennial Bell Ball on Saturday 8th
May following the District Assembly on the same date. The District is organizing
a function on environmental protection – tree-planting and cleanup on Lantau
Island. This event is called
“Lend a Hand to Environment” and will be held coming Sunday 2nd
May. In addition, the 39th
Joint Interact Walkathon/Marathon will be held on Sunday 9th May. We
urge our members who are interested to join any of the events above. Please feel
free to contact Lillian for details.
Today
DG Jones visited our club for the second time during his term of office. He just
returns from his second visit to Rotary Clubs in Mongolia.
According to DG, District 3450 covers two countries (China and Mongolia),
with a total of 17,000 members at present. A new Rotary Club of Tuul in Mongolia
has been admitted to membership of Rotary International since on 23rd
February – during the 99th Anniversary of Rotary. The Club will be established
shortly. This will make it the fifth Club in Mongolia and 52nd club
in the District. This new Club will
comprise of 43 Charter members with Mr. Dorligjav as the Charter President. Rotary Club of Hong Kong is the sponsorship club for this
provisional club RC of Tuul.
The
first Rotary Worlds Peace Scholar from District 3450 is Mr. Zorigtbaatar
Tserenchimeg. He is the President of Youth Association of Mongolia and who has
received World Peace Scholarship Award 2004-06.
He will go to US to study in “peace and conflict resolution”.
DG
Jones was delighted our Club’s 100% membership retention rate and the 3 new
members this year. Next year is the
Centennial year of Rotary. The Centennial Bell will be in Hong Kong on Tuesday 4th
May. We can celebrate by attending
the Centennial Bell Dinner for Area 3 at the American Club in Central on
Thursday 6th May (please note our regular luncheon on the day will be
cancelled and you can “make up” at the celebration the same evening).
Otherwise it is not too late. Members can still catch the celebration and
“make up” at the Centennial Bell Ball on Saturday 8th May. Please
contact Lillian for details.
