Today we invited incoming AG Lawrence Li and the incoming Deputy AG to join our dinner meeting. This evening was also saw the induction of Stephane Alcaraz, who was introduced by PE Tobias. After the induction ceremony by President Angela Stephane became our member and his classification is Interior Design. President Angela announced that the lunch meeting of 14th July would be cancelled and replaced by the District Installation on 12th July. PP Bernie started the last Club 888 lucky draw of 2004-2005 with VP Thomas, and he announced that it is time to collect prizes for the next year, so if members can help to donate prizes please contact him. The speaker today was Ms Jill Samelson and the topic was "Autism in Hong Kong". Jill's daughter Elizabeth was diagnosed with autism and she found Hong Kong had a lack of programmes for school age children with disabilities, so she decided to return to the United States to provide her daughter with the best possible education. But her husband's company needed them to return to Asia so she decided to open a school dedicated to providing quality education for children who cannot learn in a mainstream environment. Thus the Children's Institute of Hong Kong was established. The institute uses CABAC (Comprehensive Applied Behavior Analysis to schooling) to teach students, and they have a one-to-one teacher to student ratio. The Institute is a non-profit organization; so they rely on donations to expand their service, also welcoming the donation of materials, such as books, videos and periodicals pertaining to Autism and other childhood disabilities for the resource room. After the speech by Ms Samelson, Rtn Francesco brought us the photos of the Carnival on the Terrace; there were more than fifty photos each with an interesting explanation from Rtn Francesco which brought us a lot of laughs.
