| Lunch Meeting of 23 June 05 |
|
Our Fellowship Chairman today was Rtn Danny and our Sergeant-at-Arms was our new member, Rtn Stephane who managed to collect $640 between the raffle and fines. President
Angela, IPP Peter and PE Tobias were in Chicago for the International
Convention, so PP Bernie was the Acting President today.
PP Bernie announced that the District Installation on 12th
July will be replaced to our regular lunch meeting on 14th July.
Also, Club 888 now has collected about 30 prizes for 2005-2006 lucky draws,
but we still need about 20 more, we hope all members can help. Today we have
celebrated PP Gary’s Birthday by presenting him with a bottle of wine as a
birthday gift. PP Nick has just
returned from China and he said our Leprosy Patients Project is making good
progress. The Centre is now open, they have just purchased a vehicle for
transportation and are now starting to educate doctors on Leprosy. Our Leprosy
Patients Project partner Handa’s office in Guangzhou has just been broken
into and they lost a lot of electronics appliances including their laptop, so
if any member has a laptop which can be donated to them, please contact PP
Nick. PP Nick also hopes members can donate bedding for the Leprosy Patients. The speaker
today was Father Patrick Taveirne and the topic was “The Shuwuu Project in
Mongolia”. Father Patrick has been a missionary in Hong Kong for more than
30 years; he can speak very good Cantonese. Recently he published a book on
Sino-Mongol contacts and co-organized several international symposia on
cultural exchange with the PRC and Mongolia. He came today to introduce us the
Shuwuu Project in Mongolia. Our Club have supported this project for two years
and the project is trying to help the unemployed Mongolian to find work at the
farm and bakery organised by ICM Sisters. With the education given, help from
the sisters and farmland given by the government they have had a good harvest.
The project also provides education and computer classes for them, the main
aim of the project being to educate them to think and solve their own
problems. Father Patrick brought us a lot of photos and shared this meaningful
project with us.
