Our Fellowship Chairman today was PP George and our Sergeant-at-Arms was Rtn Stephane who managed to collect $1194 between the raffle and fines.

Today was the first meeting of our President Tobias to hold the Club meeting.  He announced that the District Installation on 12th July would replace the lunch meeting on 14th July.  In addition, the dinner meeting this month on 21st July would be changed to lunch meeting on the same day and same venue.  The Birthday Boy of today was our new member, Patrick; we sang a birthday song to him.

PP Bernie announced that as informed by TELA (Television & Entertainment Licensing Authority), there would be a policy change on 2006.  Lottery licence would only be approved with maximum duration of 8 weeks; the date of draw should be the same as the end date of the whole lottery event.  That is, the usual mechanism of Club 888 will not be considered any more, so the committee will discuss this later.  And PP Kishore reported to us that the Rotavest had assembled yesterday (Wednesday) to consider the investment on next year and they would welcome new members to join.

The speaker today was Ms Nicole Arnulphy and the topic was “Growth Through Out Door Adventure Learning”.  Nicole was born in HK and played ‘the HK under 19’s Hockey Squad’ and represented her school in swimming, hockey and cross-country.  After graduated from university with degree on Sports and Exercise, she got many sports qualifications. Today, the purpose of speech was to introduce GOAL (Growth Through Out Door Adventure Learning) to us.  GOAL is to encourage young people to develop an understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses, to build on strengths and find strategies to deal with weaknesses, and to develop a strategy-building and positive attitude towards obstacles.  Meanwhile, GOAL uses the outdoor adventure camps which are specifically designed to achieve their purpose.  In addition to the camping specialist, they also have clinical psychologist to follow the camp.  The participants of the GOAL must be English speaker and have a need to build self-confidence or social skills.  The organization believes that it is time to have a different summer vocation for the young people.
