For the Wine Tasting at Kellet Island, the price is only HK$50 in addition to a voucher issued in the same amount for spending within the Clubhouse. Dinner is, however, not included. We had two speakers tonight. The first one was Mr. Warren Mok. Mr. Mok was a world-renowned Hong Kong tenor who had performed many leading roles since his European debut in 1987 at the Deutsche Opera Berlin. Afterwards, he had founded Opera Hong Kong in 2003 and had been its Artistic Director. Mr. Mok would like to introduce "Opera Hong Kong" to us. According to Mr. Mok, Opera Hong Kong was the first opera company established in Hong Kong and was a non-profit charitable organization. Mr. Mok and a group of opera lovers, such as CP Dennis, PP Bernie and Honorary member Emily who were committed to the mission of enhancing the appreciation of the art of opera in Hong Kong, so jointly founded the organization. Now, Opera Hong Kong would jointly present "Opera in 3 Acts - Turandot" with the Leisure and Culture Service Department. The opera would have multi media in the stage, beautiful costume and of course the wonderful performance. It would be nice if our club members could go together and could support the Hong Kong art and performance.

Our second speaker of the night was Mr. Robert Liwall who talked about "Cycling Home from Siberia". Robert aimed to travel 20,000 km from Northern Russia to Southern Australia, and then 20,000 km back to England, by using only bicycle, and where necessary, boat. He had begun at the start of winter 2004 from the Gulag town of Magadan (Stalin's "gateway to hell"), had cycled through 5000KM of tundra (camping in temperatures as low as minus 40) and then had pedalled his way through Japan, across South Korea and on to China¡K after that it would be island hopping south through the Philippines and Indonesia and into the deserts and rainforests of Australia¡K before finally turning homeward bound via the most exciting route he could find through mainland Asia. During the thousands of hours in the saddle, He was aiming to raise money for Viva Network (find out more at www.viva.org ) in support of their outstanding work with children at risk around the world. With his beautiful photos, all of us were shocked by his amazing trip, and were happy to donate the raffle and fines collected today to Viva Network. We wished him all the best.
