Our Fellowship Chairman today was PP Nick and our Sergeant-at-Arms was IPP Angela. Our Sergeant-at-Arms managed to collect $1,370 between the raffle and fines. President Tobias firstly welcomed the Rotarians from San Francisco and Quarry Bay to join our meeting. He announced that the 75th Golf Tournament would be held on 9th of September at Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling and the Wine Tasting organized by PP Gaston would be held on 2nd of November at Kellet Island, Yacht Club. For the Wine Tasting at Kellet Island, the price is only HK$50 in addition to a voucher issued in the same amount for spending within the Clubhouse. Dinner is, however, not included. Interested members please contact Lillian. We had two birthday boys, PP Rex and PP Dennis, for this week, and had sang a birthday song to them. Then, we had presented the Paul Harris Fellowship to Rtn Danny and Rtn Jim by President Tobias. In addition, Rtn Tony Leung from Quarry Bay had introduced their project to us. While they had been supporting Hong Chi Association in terms of manpower and money, they hoped that our Club could help in their project. Further, PP Nick had updated us the progress of the Leprosy Patients Project. Afterwards, Rtn Angela from Club of San Francisco had introduced Alliance for Smile to our Club. Our speaker today was Mr. Ho Yin Ming and his topic was "Introduction of patient groups in Hong Kong - A combination of self-help, mutual support, volunteering and advocacy". Mr. Ho introduced to us that those self-help groups in Hong Kong mostly are for Chronic diseases and cancers. Functions of the groups included emotional support, information and advice, education and training, direct service provision and social activities, in which would also be an effective and cost efficient mechanism for stress buffering. Hong Kong Adult Blood Cancer Group was established at Prince of Wales Hospital at 1997. Their mission was to form a territory-wide peer support network and to provide opportunities for patients to help themselves by helping one another, while they would facilitate communication between patients and their families to cope with stresses of illness. Now, they have over 300 members and hope to do advocacy work and lead people to understand more about Adult Blood Cancer.
