Our Fellowship Chairman today was PP Paul and our Sergeant-at-Arms was Rtn Stephane. Our Sergeant-at-Arms managed to collect $640 between the raffle and fines. President Tobias announced that the Wine Tasting organized by PP Gaston would be held on 2nd of November at Kellet Island, Yacht Club. For the Dinner and Wine Tasting at Kellet Island, it is free for member because it will replace the dinner of October; for the Rotarianne and guests, the price is just HK$280 each. While our District Rotary Foundation Seminar will be held on Hotel Miramar on 5th November, the District Karaoke Competition will be held on 30th October at the same location. Interested members please contact Lillian. Our District will have Rotary Open Week from 7th - 11th November, and welcome everyone to visit Rotary Information Centre. Today, we presented a cheque of $21,295 to the Headmistress of Apleichau Kaifong Primary School for the English Dialogue Sessions project to purchase English education materials. The project will be continued this year. The speaker of today was Mr. Sidney Cowell whose topic was "Asian Paintings". Mr. Cowell showed us four beautiful paintings from artists of Vietnam. In addition, he introduced to us Vietnamese Lacquer which is a natural lacquer from the tree and not to be confused with Japanese lacquer, which is synthetic. The lacquer paintings take two to three month to create a reasonable size picture whereas oils and water colors can be produced in a fraction of the time. Most of the pictures have more than 12 layers of the lacquer. While Mr. Cowell has an exhibition for the Vietnamese artists at The Lee Gardens, he would like to invite all of us to go.
