The speaker of today was Ms. Nicole Schoeni and her topic was "Chinese Contemporary Oil Painting Since the 1990s". The history of oil painting in China is not very long. It began at the early decades of this century, but during the "cultural revolution" there was an ultimate reduction of art and it was used as the political weapon. Afterwards, it was the time of "Open Door" policy, Chinese art entered a period of gradual opening and activity. From 1985, it was the expansion of modernism and meditation when China opened and faced the world. For the 90s, the trend of the Chinese oil painting has been neo-realism, which is a combination of classicism, symbolism, rationalism, surrealism, and classic Chinese features. Nicole showed us some artwork of the great artists of the 90s, for example Wang Yi Dong, Wang Hua Xiang, Liu Xiao Dong, Yu Hong and etc. Also, she brought us books to introduce Chinese Oil Painting.
