Lunch Meeting of 2nd February 06

Our Fellowship Chairman today was PP Paul and our Sergeant-at-Arms was Rtn Fali. Our Sergeant-at-Arms managed to collect $620 between the raffle and fines.

President Tobias announced that the District Conference would be held between 22nd and 23rd of April 2006 at Regal Airport Hotel. The RI Convention, in addition, would be held from 11th to14th of June 2006 at Copenhagen and Malmo. Further, the District Cantonese Opera Songs would be held on 5 February at Hong Kong Cultural Centre to raise the fund for Hepatitis B prevention work.

Meanwhile, the raffle prize of today was a ticket of Saffire - an Australian Guitar Quartet performance at HK Cultural Centre. On the other hand, Our Club is organizing the District Sports Day, and the event will be held on 19th February. We need the help of all Rotarian to be present in order to support the event, volunteers for sports day marshal, and sponsorship of cash or different items.

Club 888 is ready now. While we have just sold 35 tickets, our lucky draw will take place on 16th March. On the other hand, Rtn. Christophe went to Egypt and visited their Rotary Clubs. He then explained the project of them.

The speaker of today was Mr. Phil Warner and his topic was "Some Updates from Crossroads International". Crossroads International is a registered non-profit corporation, which takes Hong Kong's quality, superseded goods and redistributes them to people in need, locally and internationally. So, Crossroads seeks, indeed, to be a crossroads; a place where need and resource intersect. They only send the materials to areas where they have a recipient group on the ground to monitor distribution and provide accountability. All the organizations, which Crossroads helps, are also required to furnish photographic feedback, any press coverage, and lists of distribution, etc. For the Tsunami in Asia, goods and labour donated through Crossroads' appeal are now reaching into the lives of those affected in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India and Thailand. Finally, our Club presented the cheque of HK$20,600 for donation of industrial scales and pallet jacks.
