Our Fellowship Chairman today was PP Paul and our Sergeant-at-Arms was PP George. Our Sergeant-at-Arms managed to collect $888 between the raffle and fines. Today President Tobias announced that the District Conference would be held between 22nd and 23rd of April 2006 at Regal Airport Hotel, while we had just four member signed in, we hoped that we would have more members attend. The RI Convention, on the other hand, would be held from 11th to14th of June 2006 at Copenhagen and Malmo. We will have joint meeting with Rotary Club of Hong Kong on 9th May at Bankers Club. The speaker will be Dr. Jim Walker, who is the Chief Economist of CLSA. In addition, we will have our Board Meeting on 20th April (Thursday) at 6:00pm at HK Golf Club before dinner meeting. Furthermore, district has organized a tour to visit and participate the charter dinner for Rotary Club of Beijing and Shanghai on 20th - 23rd May. The speaker of today was Mr. Ben Lu and his topic was "Heliskiing". Ben is the son of PP Raymond. He became a keen skier during his university years. He said his first day heliskiing was struggle but just for a brief moment, he felt weightlessness and a moment of pure joy. Since he was always the only heliskiier from Hong Kong, he would like to introduce it to our members. Ben has brought a DVD to show us what heliskiing was. Many heliskiing runs start on the high alpine glaciers and end well below tree line, deep in the valley bottoms. The glaciers and alpine bowls of the heliskiing tenure seem to go on forever. Rip turns through deep blankets of powder surrounded by jagged and awe inspiring peaks. For many skiers, tree skiing is the essence of heliskiing. The tree-terrain is challenging in addition to the deep snow lies protected from the elements amongst the spectacular old growth forests. The amount of skiing is determined by several factors, the skiing ability of the guests and the amount they desire to ski, weather and snow conditions, and available daylight hours. Further, Ben brought some books and brochure to us and hoped that we would try to enjoy the fun of heliskiing.
