On the other hand, the District Assembly would be held on 13th May (Sat.) at Shangri-la Hotel, Kowloon.  In addition, District has organized a tour to visit and participate the charter dinner for Rotary Club of Beijing and Shanghai on 20th -23rd May.

We will have a joint meeting with Rotary Club of Hong Kong on 9th May at Bankers Club and the Board decided that the club will cover the difference in the lunch fees, thus we will cancel our regular lunch meeting on 11th May (Thursday).  We will have Membership Development Dinner on 18th May at HK Golf Club.  In addition, our Annual Party will be held on 26th May 06(Friday) at Royal HK Yacht Club.

The speaker of today was Ms. Amy Camara and her topic was “Food for School in Africa”.  Amy is a native of Mauritania, and has grown up in France.  She has a graduate diploma in Economics, Management Techniques, and a master in International Economics, and Firm Strategies majoring in Sustainable Development.  She talked about a program handled by the World Food Program, which promotes education especially in girls' education. As Education is proven to be one of the most efficient tools in the fight against hunger and HIV/AIDS prevention; she would like to expand this program to promote girls' education at the secondary school and tertiary levels in Africa, where many people are dying from these 2 scourges.

She chose this topic because she is from Africa even she spent most of her live in France.  She is still very concerned about the situation in Africa.  As an educated girl, she knew how lucky she was and the least she could do was helping others who were not as lucky as her. Especially, girls play a key role in food security and are more likely affected by HIV/AIDS.  As she knows that the Rotary Club is very involved in charity works, she believes that it will be a good thing to share this project with us.  Further, she hopes that Rotarians will be willing to help out to implement the project.
