28th February 2010: The presence that lifts the spirit of the fleet
A pleasant last Sunday of February, a welcoming reception was held for the International Commodore Terry and Meryl at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. The Bistro was selected for its casual, yet clubby ambience. It was a family felt reunion for all our members plus the Rear Commodore, past commodores and yours truly. DG Ada also bestowed her presence because she has been a member of ours.
Both Commodore Terry and Meryl were dressed in their navy whites in full formality which commands instant respectability amongst our reception. The speech given by Commodore Terry lifted the spirit amongst us. International Regional Rear Commodore Steve briefed us on the history of our fleet and DG Ada gave the wrapping up speech. DG is always DG, she always remembers her details though she is a jet setting business woman. The particular details were gifts of a tie and brooch for Terry and Merryl.
The usual sumptous buffet lunch was enjoyed by all. Under a good wind, we set sail aboard the Spirit of Hong Kong, our main yacht owned and helmed by Past Commodore Alice. A scenic harbour cruise in our busy Fragrant Harbour was enjoyed by everyone. Our on board conversation covered all aspects of life including succession of leadership by IPP Joann.
The following Monday, entourage of commodore which is myself and past commodore Cassidy, President Eddy attended the regular lunch meeting hosted by President Agnes of Rotary Club of Tsim Sha Tsui. At the meeting, President Agnes also presented our IYFR souvenir, a gift set of chopsticks and rests to President Terry and Meryl. Back to back, Rear Commodore invited the International Commodore to the regular meeting of Rotary Club of Hong Kong, the original Rotary Club in Hong Kong. Our Commodore resided at the head table and spoke for our fleet.
On Wednesday morning, Commodore Terry and Merryl were ready to fly off to Phillipines to charter more new fleets. From what I know, they spent many hours at the Hong Kong hotel business centre preparing for the chartering. IYFR is all about fun and fellowship. Meanwhile it is leaders like Commodore Terry who puts in their work, upholding the formality that keeps the fleet going. We salute the Internaitonal Commodore.
