President's
Column A NEW ERA July 2008 is definitely a memorable month for me, it is my very first time to write to you here in my official capacity as Club President and yes I have to confess that this is also my very first article to be submitted to Kingspark Bulletin. I have mixed feelings as I felt the great honour to speak to you now and I also felt being ashamed of not communicating with you through this communication channel all along. I hope this will be a good start for myself and the club in this Rotary Year in my presidency. In the light of our this year's RI theme "Make Dreams Real", I'm still asking myself whether this is 'real' of being elected to be the president of RC of Kingspark HK, as I have never dreamt of being one before. This reminds me of my existence as being a Rotarian in the first place. I would like to thank PP Anwer who was both my proposer and the person who inducted me in Jan 2003. To have joined the Rotary family is a wonderful experience for me. Apart from the satisfaction through participation in community services projects, I have also treasured the fellowship and been able to sustain my personal development in playing different roles such as Program Director, Secretary, Service Project Director, Rotaract Advisor in our Club. Time flies, after five years' time frame, I'm now taking on this 'real' challenge to play as the role of Club President and as mentioned by Francis - 'to a new era of Kingspark - with a woman president'. I am indeed very grateful for the unfailing support from all the members, especially all the PPs who have spent time and effort in given me much mentorship and a lot of words of encouragement all along. I still recall when I was a new member; I did look up to the President and seek for a role model as being a leader of the club with high expectations. Was I looking for a direction for the club? Was he competent to be a leader and be able to lead the board members to run effective meetings? These questions struggled me what should be considered to be a good leader of the club from my point of view. A few sentences to conclude my thoughts: Serve without pride; lead to inspire others; explore needs and be persistent and commit and never give up. This would be my motto as being a leader and I am confident that given your great support, our fellowship and service would truly can change the world around us. Our RI President D.K. Lee has unveiled RI theme for 2008-09 is Make Dreams Real for children and their families with a focus on Rotary emphases of water, health and hunger, and literacy. He encouraged all of us to work hand-in-hand towards the Rotary dream of a happier, healthier and more peaceful world. I invite you to join me to serve the community by undertaking service projects related to the above mentioned emphases. Another major task for us is to keep our club effective. Being an effective club, we have to (1) achieve Membership Development; (2) carry out effective Service Projects; (3) support the Rotary Foundation; and (4) develop future District Leaders. I know I can count on each one of you for active involvement in recruiting more quality members, participating in our service projects and donating generously to the Rotary Foundation. There are so many significant accomplishments we should all be proud of as being a Kingsparican and these accomplishments are the results of teamwork, mutual trust and respect of all members. I need your active participation and proactive promotion of Rotary, and I shall discuss with you my plans and ambitions in my next article. I will try my best to serve the Club and cope with the future challenges. Let's also show your great support to our new board members who will be taking this new challenge with me and I would like to show my grateful thanks to them for having the heart to serve all of you and the community. |

From
the Charter President
This is the first issue for this Rotary year. For the first time in our club's history, we have a lady president. To mark the occasion, and to make a difference, I am giving you her first message as soon as I receive it, and without waiting for my brother's article. I hope he understands and approves. We left last time on a note that President Joyce and I had discussed how to make the club website more attractive and our bulletin more accessible. She then went away for business overseas; and I understand she had only come back yesterday. And she had her first article uploaded today - I am impressed. I hope you are too. I have said before that we owe it to the system to support the President and what he or she represents. I have every reason to believe that this simple message is still on your mind and that you understand it well, so that I need not repeat it or expound its merits or significance. Suffice it to say that I expect most of you to turn up tomorrow at the club installation meeting. I promise you that you won't regret being there. |
