District 3450 Fundraising Walkathon For Hepatitis B Immunization Project on December 14, 2003 raised HKD2M to help the new born babies in China

It was such a wonderful Sunday at the scenic Victoria Peak Hong Kong where more than 2,800 participants wearing Rotary caps, Santa hats or reindeer hats exercised our Rotary Theme 2003-2004 “Lend A Hand”. With the full efforts, dedicated participations and generous sponsorship from Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors , their friends and relatives, teachers, parents and kids from HK Ling Liang Church Kindergarten, we had successfully raised up to HKD2M from this District Fundraising Walkathon for Hepatitis B Immunization Project In China.

The fundraising walkathon was jointly organized with HK Ling Liang Church Kindergarten and co-organised by eight Rotary Clubs such as Rotary Club of Bayview Sunshine HK, Rotary Club of Channel Islands, Rotary Clubs of Happy Valley, Rotary Club of Hong Kong Bayview, Rotary Club of Kowloon Northwest, Rotary Club of Shatin, Rotary Club of Tolo Harbour and Rotary Club of Tsuen Wan, with the support from all Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors of District 3450 and HK Ling Liang Church Kindergarten Alumni Association.

The participants in this three- mile walk for Hepatitis B immunization included 600 children under the age of 6 and their parents, 300 children at the age of 14 to 18, Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, friends and relatives, teachers, government officials, religious leaders, television artists and members of the media. Backed by Ling Liang Kindergarten Alumni Orchestra, we sang together the Rotary and Kindergarten songs to initiate the opening ceremony at the Open Plaza of Peak Galleria in the beautiful sunny afternoon on Sunday 14 Dec., 2003.

“ Our District 3450 has extended its humanitarian and social services in Mainland China. Last year, we committed to work together with the Ministry of Health in China to vaccinate one million new born babies against Hepatitis B in ten years time”, said District Governor Jones Wong at the opening ceremony.” Hepatitis B is highly endemic and over one third of the world’s carrier is in China now.”

“This walkathon enables us to teach our children and kids from kindergarten to help and serve those in need “ said Sophia Chan, headmaster of HK Ling Liang Church Kindergarten and Chairman of District Fundraising Committee. ”Let all the children from our Kindergarten share their love with their parents to the new born babies in the poor area of China.”

Followed by the lively “Chic Dance” performed by the kids of HK Ling Liang Church Kindergarten which aroused all participants to dance on spots and the popular “Hip Hop Dance” performed by the Interactors of District 3450 which attracted even the people passing by at the Peak asking for the details of donations for this meaningful walkathon. Two television artists Miss Miu Siu Wai and Mr.Yuen Siu Cheung had cheered us up with a passionate speech and exciting imitate “Chic Dance” before District Governor Jones Wong and all VIPs who included the honorable guest Mr. Wang Rudeng, Assistant Director and Director General of HK Island Sub-office of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government HKSAR, officiated the walk.

“ We are so glad to be here with you all and to see such a mega fundraising event with fun and fund from the Rotary to help the needy. We are also very impressed to see so many participants and the huge fund that Rotary has raised” said Miu Siu Wai, the television artist of TVB.

Over 150 volunteers who came from the hard working staff members of HK Ling Liang Church Kindergarten together with the energetic Rotaractors and Interactors of District 3450 distributed toys, accessories, drinks and other donated souvenirs at ten checking points during the walk. The children had a very good time to participate the games at each checking points and they were so happy and surprised to meet a group of charming little angels, Santa Claus and shepherds to welcome them.

The fundraising walkathon not only was fun and raised fund but also involved every member of the clubs and raised awareness in the community. We fully demonstrated our Rotary spirit and team work by joining our hands to make a difference for the lives of people in the other parts of the world. We had aroused over 2,800 participants to “Lend A Hand” and implemented the Four Task Force of this Rotary year: We motivated family of Rotary to participate, we educated our children to help and serve, we had health concern to Hepatitis B and had raised funds to alleviate poverty.

美好家庭同行樂 護肝扶苗展愛心

  
2003年12月14日星期日,當天風和日麗,二千八百多位參加者,分別來自各扶輪社、扶青團、扶少團、香港靈糧堂幼稚園的師生、父母,以至他們的親朋戚友,頭戴扶輪帽、聖誕帽等,齊集香港太平山頂實踐本年度的扶輪主題「伸出援手」,為中國“再創生命 – 扶輪百萬小兒健肝工程” 步行籌款,一共籌得港幣二百萬元。

  是次活動由本地區與香港靈糧堂幼稚園合辦,並由香港海景驕陽、離島、跑馬地、香港海景、九龍西北、沙田、吐露港、荃灣等八個扶輪社協辦,並獲本地區的扶輪社員、扶青團員、扶少團員及香港靈糧堂幼稚園舊生會的全力支持。

  開幕典禮在山頂廣場外舉行,在香港靈糧堂幼稚園舊生會樂隊的演奏和扶輪歌、幼稚園校歌聲中,政府官員、宗教領袖、影視藝人、傳媒人、老師、扶輪社員、扶青團員、扶少團員以及他們的親朋戚友,加上三百多位14至18歲的青少年、六百多位六歲以下的小孩和他們的父母,一同展開三公里的步行籌款。

  國際扶輪3450地區王仲熹區總監在開幕禮中致詞說:『本地區過去多年已將人道及社會服務搌展到中國大陸。去年更與中國衛生部合作,要在未來十年內,為中國貧困地區一百萬名新生兒進行乙肝免疫注射。乙型肝炎是常見的風土病,而全球三份一的乙型肝炎帶箘者是在中國呢!』

既是香港靈糧堂幼稚園校長,又是地區籌款主委的陳曾建樂說:『步行籌款可以教導我們幼稚園的同學學會扶貧濟困,讓他們與父母一起,把愛心延伸到中國貧困地區的新生兒。』

  接著由香港靈糧堂幼稚園的小朋友表演生動活潑的小雞舞,由本地區扶少團員表演流行的街頭舞,令許多參加者都一齊起舞,更惹得不少行人查詢如何參與這項有意義的活動。在王仲熹區總監聯同包括中央人民政府駐香港特別行政區聯絡辦公室王如登部長等貴賓主持起步禮之前,兩位電視藝人梅小惠小姐和阮兆祥先生諧趣感人的說話加上熱情惹笑的小雞舞極具視聽之娛。 

  無線電視藝人梅小惠小姐說:『我好高興能夠出席今日充滿歡樂的盛事,眼見扶輪社和各位參加者出錢出力扶貧,籌得如此巨額款項,實令人深受感動。』

  超過150位來自香港靈糧堂幼稚園和本地區扶青團及扶少團的義工在沿途十個檢查站派發玩具、飲品及各種各樣募捐而來的紀念品,設立各式各樣的遊戲,孩子們既玩之餘,看到一群天使、聖誕老人及牧羊人等都雀躍不已。

  總的來說,這次步行籌款不單只有歡樂、有善款,又教育孩童,讓各位社友全家參與,實踐扶輪四大服務,更在社會上造成迴響,服務國際的扶輪精神可算表露無遺。
