Fully Supports
Joyful Fruit Day 430
Fruit Day every day, share the gift today!
The benefits of fruit intake for protection against chronic illnesses such as heart diseases, stroke, diabetes and certain kinds of cancer cannot be emphasized more. Yet, local studies revealed that just over half of primary students have the habit of eating fruits twice or more daily.
In this light, the Department of Health organizes the annual Fruit Day event with support by Rotary International District 3450. This event is to be held in 2009 to mobilize wider support for healthy eating. All pre-primary, primary and secondary schools are invited to participate in the programme.
The purpose of the event aims to foster home-school co-operation to create an atmosphere that favours fruit consumption in schools and in the community. Schools may organize campus fruit parties on 30 April 2009 or on any day the schools find suitable. Schools may also encourage students to be creative with fruits and to express their kindness and concern for other people's health.
The DH will provide relevant health education materials such as online resources and 'Fruit Party' banner to all participating schools for use on the 'Fruit Day'. 'Fruit Diary' cards will be provided to pre-primary institutions to foster daily consumption of fruit in an interesting way. Billboard posters will be provided to primary schools for class activities. Award schemes are set up for voluntary participation. Details can be found in the event briefs for different school sectors.
