Dear
Prospective Candidates,
I
set out below some of the commonly asked questions concerning
the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship:
1.
We are now receiving applications for this Scholarship
which must be used towards a course beginning anytime
between July 2004 to June 2005.
2.
Each year there are about 1,200 recipients worldwide.
3.
The Scholarship is worth up to US$25,000, tenable for
one year only. It is not renewable. Any additional expenses
must be met by the student himself.
4.
Children and grandchildren of Rotarians cannot apply
for the Scholarship. However, Rylarians, Rotaractors
and Interactors are welcomed to apply.
5.
Deadline for receipt of application is: Friday, 4th
April 2003.
6.
About 5-6 Ambassadorial Scholarships will be available
to our District.
7.
Discipline of studies: no restriction. The candidate
need NOT complete his year on the Scholarship with a
qualification. He may just take credits for courses
covered during that year.
8.
Restricted destinations: an applicant cannot go to a
city (not country) where he/she has previous studied
for six months or more.
9.
The applicant must first secure the Scholarship, then
apply for admission. Otherwise, a secured admission
disqualifies him from the Scholarship.
10.
Selection criteria: ambassadorial qualities e.g. language
proficiency, outgoing personality, commitment to return
to Hong Kong, interview performance.
11.
Academic result is NOT the most important factor.
12.
For courses taught in English in a non-English speaking
country, a high standard of proficiency in the local
language is required.
13.
Minimum age: An applicant must have completed two years
of college prior to leaving Hong Kong. Maximum age:
no restrictions.
14.
HKU and HKBU have had winners in each of the last five
years .
15.
An applicant must be a Hong Kong resident. Such a person
currently studying overseas can apply for the Ambassadorial
Scholarship.
16.
The selection interview will be held in Hong Kong in
May 2003. No other interview will be held.
17.
An applicant may apply for other scholarships to add
onto the Ambassadorial Scholarship-subject to the approval
of that other scholarship.
18.
Cultural Scholarships are for cultural immersion and
advanced language training. Putonghua and English training
do NOT count .
19.
Our District does NOT award Multi-year Scholarships.
20.
Completed application forms should be submitted to a
Rotary Club c/o The Rotary Information Centre at 14th
Floor, Capital Commercial Building, 26 Leighton Road,
Causeway Bay, Hong Kong on or before Friday, 4th April
2003.
21.
